While I totally agree with you, this is precisely why you see some people so "up in arms" about Discovery. They want what they want...but they're not getting it. So they dial up the hate-o-meter, set the "jump to illogical negative conclusions machine" to maximum, and stomp around actually hoping that it will fail. Because it's not enough that they hate it...it has to fail so their opinion can be justified and they be proven right.

Never underestimate the importance of being right.
I'd applaud but I'm too busy going "Yes!" and clenching my fists in celebration because you put this so well.

I am still mad at VR5, a Fox show, ending their first season with Lori Singer trapped in Virtual Reality with no way home.

Not according to the ratings! :D
Really, You're going top go with the "Ratings = Quality" argument here?:rommie:

people can spin it whatever way they like, but approx 3 out of every ten trek fans are not positive about the show.
This is the cbs targeted audience, and before the show even airs 30% are less than positive.
I fail to see the positives in that.
That's WAY better to the run-up period to the release of TNG in 1987.

Second edit:
[Ooops, BillJ beat me to it.]:rommie:

1987 was before the days of social media.

Now days that 30% is actually 30% instead of just 1-2% who are really loud and have the platform to be seen.

How is anyone still a Star Trek fan with no new wealth of material since 2005?

3 movies don't count.

Nice movies, but a drop in the ocean compared to me needs.
There has been a ton of stuff since since 2005, Pocket has released twelve books every year, 10 PC and console video games, 3 or 4 mobile games, and IDW has released at least a couple hundred comics in that time. So there has been plenty of stuff coming out for Trek fans.

I'm sorry, but with a fandom that can be as hard to please as Trekkies, I think 7 out 10 people liking Discover is incredible. I never would have expected to actually be that high. To be completely honest, I would have been shocked with anything over 40% or 50% given how negative and vocal the really hardcore fans can be.

Positive. I really like the production design of the Type-2 Phaser [with Type-1 attached], Communicator, Tricorder and the uniform Delta Shield.

Okay I just need to say it:
Funny how Enterprise got flak (and still does) for its "Akiraprise", but the Shenzhou really is just an Akira class, complete with pointy 24th century nacelles and hull textures.
I mean... eh

I love the ratings game, especially when its referenced with Box Office earnings ;)

It is amazing to see how much product is still coming out for Trek, regardless of a show's status or film production.

The "Akiraprise" thing never made sense to me whatsoever.

NX-01 was a shameless copy of the Akira class. Akira was a "guest" ship that many loved and didn't mind when ENT ripped it off since they brought a cool design to the foreground. Doing it again with the Shenzou (yes it's a ripoff too despite added greebles) reminds some us of a series we don't remember fondly. That and they should have been more original 15+ years later.

If this really was science and not art, there are a limited number of designs that would comply with usable warp architecture. Some novel I read years ago, said that the Klingons were dumb, and that the Federation was lucky that the Klingons were dumb, because they were too busy trying to make scary looking cool ships, that their ability to make efficient warp bubbles was being seriously hampered.

That's a two way street.

Shenzhou looks like Enterprise to some people because neither has an engineering hull.

That's it. Boom.

Many fans are not at all imaginative.

I see vague similarities in the shape, but that's about it.

Secondly, I love the NX-01, and even if it is "shameless" my question is "So what?" at least for me. It reminds me of a Starfleet vessel, one that I actually enjoyed because it felt like a transition stage between the NASA style shuttles, submarines and Starfleet vessels.

Finally, Shenzou isn't the main ship, so I'm not going to stress it. I can't run around avoiding things that remind of shows I didn't enjoy in a franchise.

Who is this "we" you speak of?
Seeing them "side by side" actually illustrates their differences.
"We" being those who mentioned the Shenzou looks like it's right out of Enterprise. How many starships did we see in Enterprise that didn't have this design barring the mirror Defiant?
As for differences, flip the nacelles, and without moving any parts, make some a little smaller and some a little larger, and adjust styling of nacelles and paint job to match era.

Hero ships have to be knock-offs of the Enterprise. Otherwise it's not Star Trek.
