Over 70% DO have a positive opinion. And those are nit-picky, impossible to please, possessive Star Trek fans.

I think that's very good sign.

See? You can make the data say whatever you want. You want to be negative. I don't see it at all.

A better question is do you plan to sign up for CBS all access to see the series. Granted the first Episode will be free since there is a 7 day trial available. Still being positive is one thing and paying $5 to $10 a month is another issue.

To add to your point. The folks at Midnight Edge reports that OLDTrek merchandising is doing well. Kelvin Timeline stuff, not doing so hot. Don't know where they source their info but I buy it.
This is part of a drive on CBS' marketing strategy and has been for years.

I don't mean to sound like an ass, but $5-10 per month to watch Star Trek is about as easy a decision as I will make in my life. I've spent thousands on Trek merchandise, movies, Series, books, comics, video games, toys, autographs, and tshirts. WTF do I give a shit about $7.99 additional per month to watch my favorite franchise return?

I've already subscribed. Star Trek Discovery and streaming AFC NFL football games? Yeah...I think I can afford it. I'll cut back on one sandwich from the company cafe per month, and I think I'll be ok.

When people expect Star Trek to be "free", it sounds like a rip off. Let's be honest Star Trek isn't "Game of Thrones"

I like Star Trek better than GoT. So it ain't a rip off to me.

I think y'all are really being "hopeful" that the show will fail at this point You can all but guarantee it makes min 2 seasons.

I don't disagree. If you work it out, one year of ST:Disc on CBS all access is basically the cost of the one season on bluray or DVD (Plus as you mention you get the benefit of live Football) . Of course try convincing irate ST fans much less new fans.

Expectations of "free" don't make them a reality. We've been paying for "free" things through advertising for years. Just, now it actually has a price tag the consumer can see, which makes more sense to me as a consumer.

And Game of Thrones wasn't Games of Thrones when it was greenlit.
I spend more than five dollars a month on a lot of things. It's no hardship.

That's why I put "free" in quotes.

Rumors are they expect 4 million new subscribers. I don't think that's going to happen. 1 million maybe is Star Trek Discovery is good.

I have a feeling it will be somewhere in the middle. Star Trek isn't the only reason people will sign up, myself included.

HBO separated HBO online as a separate paid service because of the success of Game of Thrones. They wanted to capture some of the lost revenue from people torrenting or sharing HBO app.

CBS and Netflix are going to have the same problem. People are going to torrent ST: Discovery like crazy at least initially.

Cost of doing business these days.

And? That's now news.

Just wanted to add the HBO now has a subscriber base of 2 million (and this is with GoT).
And? There are plenty of non-Star Trek fans out there who will enjoy CBS AA offerings, my grandma and my wife included. So, let us not leap to conclusions based upon HBO's model. And GoT can burn in a wildfire for all I care.
