Things that make sense or correct (or untangle) previous continuity items will be okay with me.
I'm not sure I'd like to see aliens hundreds of years before their time or Kirk/Spock/McCoy getting some glimpse of the future that they will create (I hate that cliche).
I think that if they look to the spirit of what TOS was trying to do and the core of what the "spirit of the times" was meant to be and it's a good story I can forgive a lot.
Though a nod to the Centaurs would be nice given the fact I grew up with books/RPG's saying how important they were to the Federation.

There's still time to fire you.... If they mess about with WNMHGB, I won't mind much. None of the general audience will be familiar with the second pilot episode. (In its early episodes, TOS mangled up its own continuity!) I am quite surprised that Pike is even in XI, to be honest. (Who wants to bet we won't see the old 'Cage/WNMHGB' style uniforms?)
It would be nice of them to at least MENTION Piper, Mitchell, Lee Kelso, Elizabeth Denher, etc. I doubt we'll see Yeoman Colt, Number One, or Dr Boyce, either.

Smart ass answer: Only if they have ridges on their foreheads.
Sensible answer: If they went back in time from the 24th century and weren't noticed, it'd be no different than when Spock visited 1980s Earth in TVH. Of course, if they go back and yell, "Here we are!" Well -- .
I think that's a piece of continuity that they should feel free to ignore. When "Balance of Terror" was being made, they were innocently attempting to set up a cool reveal ("Holy shit, the mysterious alien race look like Vulcans!"), not handing down the Bill of Rights.
The more it's emphasized in the context of the established universe, the more of a stretch it becomes (The Romulans have had no contact with the Federation? UFP space and Romulan space are so close together that they need a DMZ, yet in one hundred years, no one from a Romulan-controlled world, or who has had face-to-face diplomatic or trade contact with Romulans, has ever had contact with the Federation? Really? No Neutral Zone incursions from third parties that required Romulans and Feds to at least communicate by viewscreen? Nothing?). A little flexibility on that point might be beneficial.
I think they meant Dr. Mark Piper, who was played by an actor named Paul Fix.
My take on this whole canon thing: Meh.
Whatever differences that might arise won't be violating canon, they'll be establishing it. It's onscreen, after all.
And until we are specifically told otherwise, this is NOT a reboot.
Creatively minded novelists will find ways to explain away any inconsistencies in this film anyway.
At this stage i will accept anything Trek wise as long as its enjoyable too watch, canon wise i am very flexible and again if the story is good i will ignore any minor mistakes..

Exactly. Let's see, there's already 14 speaking parts I count in this movie (Kirk, Spock, Spock, McCoy, Scotty, Uhura, Sulu, Chekov, Pike, Nero, Kirk's father and mother, Sarek, Amanda). Granted, some may have very few lines.
Still, start introducing even more characters with things to say or something to do (Mitchell, Kelso, Chapel, Number One, Marcus, and whoever) just because canon, needs, or kewlness requires they be there, and maybe that crazy post about the thick script IS correct and the movie WILL be verbose.
Maybe it's time to cull the herd.
We all want an entertaining movie. The thing is, some of us see canon as an obstacle to that... and others don't.
Honestly, I can't imagine why it's necessary to intentionally change "history" in order to tell an entertaining story. If a writer finds it impossible to tell a good story without intentionally contradicting "established" things, he's a pretty poor writer, if you ask me.
This does NOT mean "tipping the hat" to every possible little canonical detail. THAT would kill the movie at least as effectively as if they told us Spock is actually a standup comic.
It wouldn't bother in the slightest. However, if they do something crazy like have Spock not being all emotional cause we know he was in the Cage then that will just ruin it! :P

Personally, I think the Starfleet Uniforms should look closer to modern day military uniforms (ex. A Few Good Men).
Duty uniform:
yellow, blue, and read tunics with fold over collars layed flat. Rank square pips on right collar. Medal Starfleet badge on left breast. Department color stripes down the black pant legs. ankle high black shoes.
Dress uniform:
Black jacket. Tunics' collars now folded. Seen above jacket collar. Department color tie added.
I'm just cutting out the buttons and shoelaces.

Actually, I hope they don't make Spock TOO true to the emoting Spock of "The Cage". If for no other reason than because it's not the image of Spock in the popular culture.
I'm also really looking forward to seeing how Quinto will play the stoic Spock personality that dominated TOS episodes.
