How much Iowa are we going to see?

Well, I'd still like to see this ten minute sex scene with Jennifer Morrison and Chris Hemsworth. So, at least ten minutes in the Kirk bedroom, I'd say. ;)

Probably nowhere near as much as we saw of "Kansas" (which was really Canada) in the 1978 Superman movie. Clark's upbringing was MUCH more important to whom he would become than anything about Iowa is to Kirk, IMO.

Seems to me Kirk became "James T. Kirk, leader of men and women" during and after his academy years, mostly.

How much of Kirk's childhood home do you think we will see in the new movie?

Hopefully we will see enough to give the movie an epic feel but not too much as to "ground" the movie (it's not called Star Trek for nothing).

As long as we see Kirk running next to a train at high speed and leaping across the front of it at a crossing, I'll be happy.

Iowa? Young kirk will at some point have a potatoe side dish with his meal.

I'd quite like to see a shot of ol' Jimmy boy laying on his back in a field and gazing out into the stars.

Hands behind his head, eyes wide in wonder.

That sort of thing.

No Effing way! Iowans (I grew up there) will BOYCOTT! Screw that, JJ "Reboot reality" Abrams! :D

I love it when people confuse Iowa with Idaho! :D Or is that Idahoe? ;)

Or Abrams is rebooting Iowa's agriculture.

I suspect that BigC was confusing the two, but he wasn't that far off.

As a proud son of that part of the country, I can state unequivocally that -- despite not being a big Iowa crop -- potatoes in some form (fried, baked, or mashed) are as common in Midwest cuisine as beef. Which is to say, ubiquitous.

Key term: "meat and potatoes."

I didn't want to go to the Q word, though him being from INDIANA (another I state), that further cements my point!

That's it! It's all so clear now! Why didn't I see it before?
Dan Quayle as Q... don't you see? It has hilarity, a famous cameo, a beloved ST character... All of the elements needed to make STXI a huge box office success!!! :rommie::bolian:

Well, then maybe they grow potatoes in Bakersfield, CA.
I mean, I doubt young Kirk is speeding down the road in a Corvette with cornfields passing him by (or even soy beans). And while all of Iowa is not flat as a pool table (especially around where I grew up), I hope they avoid any mountains in the background during Kirk's joy ride.

Though I'm hoping to hear young Kirk say, "Dez Moinez." ;)

We should see Young Kirk battling 1930s treasure hunters and then boarding a circus train which leads-

Oh wait, that was Indiana Jones.

Just show Kirk masturbating at home - that'll illustrate that he's a young man

There are people who say this, presumably?

More than you'd think. Many are also the same people who think everyone from Iowa is an Iowa Hawkeye fan. (Which always fries my potatoes because I graduated from ISU.)

On thread, since the second team was out in Bakersfield shooting for what, one day with the young Kirks, I'd guess we're going to see very little of "Iowa" except perhaps on sets.
