I personally don't need to see a lot of this. In later Trek (ENT and Kelvin timeline) I think at times it's been abused to the point of pandering, for example the infamous Kirk death scene in Into Darkness. However sometimes it's been a useful part of the plot, for instance ENT's In A Mirror, Darkly and the USS Franklin in Beyond.
My point being, I'd like Discovery to be recognizable as Star Trek. I want to see Star Fleet, Starships, Division-associated colors, themes such as an optimistic view of the future, etc. But I'd like the writers to avoid retreads of scenes and plotlines, throwaway references to other Trek, and other tired "homage".
What do people think about this?
