How many times will you see a movie in theaters?

Since my home setup is nowhere near as impressive as a fifty-foot theater screen, if a movie is good then I will see it in theaters as many times as I reasonably can for the true cinematic experience.

Depends on my current lifestyle and location. Back in college, it was not uncommon to see a movie multiple times, in large part because it was a social thing. "Hey, let's go out for pizza and go see EXCALIBUR again!"

Ditto for when I lived in big cities and a multiplex was only a few subway stops away, but multiple viewings were again mostly a social thing. I actually saw HOWARD THE DUCK twice in the theaters, just because a friend really wanted to see it, and I once saw ROMANCING THE STONE three times in one week--with different assortments of friends.

Nowadays, however, I live in Amish country and the nearest movie theater is at least forty-five minutes away by car--and across the state line, no less--so, yeah, it takes a lot more effort to see a movie in a theater once, let alone twice. I think the only movies I've seen twice in the theaters in recent years were STAR TREK (2009) and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.

It depends on the movie. Most movies I'll see only once.

The much-hated by everyone Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace I saw seven and a half times in theaters (mainly because it was my first Star Wars on the big screen, and one-half because the film tore up halfway through the eighth viewing  )

Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith I only saw three times in theaters because I was busy juggling college and full time jobs.

Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Wars: The Force Awakens I've seen twice. Mostly because the theater goers around here are annoying as fuck or else I'd see them more. But I am tempted to drive down to Knoxville and watch The Force Awakens a third time in IMAX.

Going to the theatre is really expensive now, and on top of that, I'd just as rather park my ass on my soft, fluffy couch for two hours than at a cinema.

I saw The Phantom Menace twice, and I think I saw Star Trek: Insurrection twice, but that was before two adults going to the movies was a $50+ hit.

Going to a movie once is pretty rare for me. The movie would have to be off the charts phenomenal for me to see a movie twice ever again.

I've never seen a movie in a theater more than once, it's too expensive. For the price of a movie ticket I can own the Blu Ray a few months later, no movie is so good or important that I have to see it again right away.

I've seen a few films in recent years more than once, the last Potter film, Star Trek into Darkness and both Avengers films twice and I've seen Force Awakens three times.

I have a Cineworld card which means I pay a set amount per month and can go as often as I like. I still don't get time to see more than 2/3 films a month at most but it does mean I can justify seeing something good multiple times.

I will go see a movie a second time if I really like it. Unless its a Trek movie - then the sky is the limit.

I got to thinking after seeing some posts around here it would be interesting to ask. I myself have never seen a movie more than once in theaters. It seems like a lot of money to spend, and even when I used to go practically weekly I always preferred to watch something new to re-watching a good movie. Even once I get the DVD I usually watch a movie about 1 or 2 more times until every scene becomes too familiar to elicit any excitement from me. I might watch it every couple of years after that. That's just me though.

Thoughts? How many times have you gone?
Admittedly I saw the first Star Wars film 13 times at the cinema when it came out, but I was young and impressionable !

I'll see a film once thesedays, and if I really like it (or if it's something I collect) I'll buy it.

I have to admit though, I've probably only played about 50% of my Blurays and DVD's...

I imagine the fact that new movies now come out on home video within months of their original release is changing habits to some degree. There's probably less of an incentive to see that really great movie again when you know you can rent it from Redbox or whatever in the near future.

^ For those with really nice home theater setups, I would tend to agree. But still, a fifty-inch TV screen does not give the same experience as a fifty-foot theater screen.

I tend to agree with the OP; something fresh is usually a better proposition than a a repeat viewing. The last film I saw twice in the theatres was Into Darkness, and The Return Of The King remains the only movie I've gone to see three times

I've never seen a movie all the way through more than once in theater. I got sick halfway through Revenge of the Sith and had to leave. So I saw it again in theater. I'm seriously considering going to see TFA again, though...

Once. If it were up to me, it would be dozens of times, but I'm lucky to get the scheduling aside in order for me to see a movie once. I've been planning Star Trek Beyond's premiere for months. I will get to see it once, and only once, in theaters, and I'm going to make it count.

That also happens to me whenever I attempt to re-watch ROTS.

It was Phantom Menace for me. Had to bail at the end of the pod race and was throwing up in a toilet. Not the movie's fault, but it wasn't that great as a movie was it now?

Most movies I go only once. Though I've been to both Abrams Trek films three times, The Force Awakens and Deadpool I've been twice.

So far, I've seen:

  1. Star Wars: The Force Awakens 3 times (all in IMAX)
  2. Deadpool 3 times, the first in IMAX, the second and third at a normal theater, with the third time as a D-Box.
  3. SPECTRE: 2 times both in IMAX
  4. The Amazing Spider-Man II: 2 times, once in IMAX and the first time, normally
  5. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World: 5 times, including a special free showing (free if you lined up outside of HMV to see the director, and then get a ticket to see the movie at the Bloor Cinema here in Toronto in October of 2010.)
  6. Star Trek (2009 movie): Eight times, including two in IMAX
  7. Captain America: Three times
  8. The Avengers: Four times
  9. The Incredibles: Two
  10. Guardians Of The Galaxy: Five
  11. Iron Man: Twice
