How many times will you see a movie in theaters?

I've seen The Force Awakens 3 times now, saw Spectre 3 times last year as well, however these are rare occurrences. Did see Dredd twice a few years ago.

I only go once, and even then it's if I have time. Like "Spectre" I'm leaving till the Blu-Ray comes out.

Plus, for me I have to travel 2-hours to see movies in a decent theatre. The theatre in my town hasn't seen an upgrade since it was built in the late-1970's/early-1980's, so it on has 4 screens, and 3 screens are mono and the other is stereo. None of the theatres have 5.1 surround or even digital mono or stereo, even though they've stuck a sticker on the display window (that says what movie is in that theatre) next to the stereo theatre that has a Dolby Digital logo. The last movie that I can recall seeing in that theatre was Disney's "A Christmas Carol" back in 2009, but I didn't have time to travel the 2-hours during the 2009 Christmas season to see a movie.

I got to thinking after seeing some posts around here it would be interesting to ask. I myself have never seen a movie more than once in theaters. It seems like a lot of money to spend, and even when I used to go practically weekly I always preferred to watch something new to re-watching a good movie. Even once I get the DVD I usually watch a movie about 1 or 2 more times until every scene becomes too familiar to elicit any excitement from me. I might watch it every couple of years after that. That's just me though.

Thoughts? How many times have you gone?

That's me too. And if a movie is good enough I get it to watch again on DVD.

I haven't gone to a theatre in two years. The tickets, drinks, and popcorn add up. I could always not buy snacks but that's one of the reasons to see a movie on the big screen.

Now I just wait for stuff to be released via streaming.

Just once. My son and I stuff my purse with snacks and go to matinees when the theater is not packed and it's fun, but we prefer to watch the movie again on DVD. Movies come out on DVD pretty quickly these days.

Just once. It'd be unthinkable for me to go to cinema to see the same movie twice. Particularly in this day and age. Also the fact is that where I am, cinema isn't readily convenient for me to get to.

If a film hits me with something I haven't seen before or makes an awesome impression on me, I may see the film multiple times

I saw The Matrix about four or five times because it was awesome and had a certain coolness.....(and Carrie-Anne Moss looked good in that shiny leather, contrasting with creamy skin). I wasn't too keen on the sequels....and Carrie-Anne Moss didn't look the same either.

I saw Independence Day about four times, I think, because it was awesome seeing a black lead that didn't die in a summer blockbuster. Of course, it's funny now since I think the film is extremely cheesy.

I saw Deep Impact twice because it was interesting seeing a black president (who would have thunk it?) and I think I had a Leelee Sobieski crush at the time. I also thought it was cool having the film, a pretty successful one at that, directed by a woman. Now, the film isn't as strong as I thought it was.

I saw Kick-Ass two or three times because it was cool. It was a film that was taking a lot of chances (e.g. an 11 year old girl cursing and taking names, as well as getting into hand-to-hand combat with a grown man....where he is taking names. And, not to mention, a pretty violent picture that balanced a comedic tone with a serious tone).

I saw Equalizer twice because it had Denzel Washington taking names, the film just had a badass tone...and also had a favorite actress, Chloe Moretz.

I want to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens at least four times. I was going to see it today with some acquaintances, but something fell through. So, we go next week. I like having a cool black lead as well as a badass female lead mix it up in one of the biggest franchises in the world(?) and even have a hint of romance in one of the biggest franchises in the world. Will the sequels hold up?

The days when I'd see a movie dozens of times in theaters (such as Back to the Future or ST IV) are long, long gone. For some reason I have a much harder time enjoying myself in theaters these days. I don't know what's wrong - maybe it's just a symptom of getting older. Or maybe it's the noise, the overinflated ticket prices, the constant barrage of those thrice-damned advertisements and previews, etc.

In the end, though? Movies just don't thrill me like they used to. :sigh:

The most I would ever see a movie in theaters these days? I'd have to say twice. If I care enough about a movie to see it more than once, I'll usually wait and buy it from iTunes. Although I will probably see TFA one more time in the theater before it comes out on iTunes (I missed a few things the first time).

These days, most movies aren't in the theatres long enough for me to seriously consider going to the same film twice, though there are some exceptions such as the latest Star Wars.

Considering the number of films I want to see that I end up missing every year, it's very rare that I see anything in the theater twice. Last movie I saw twice was August: Osage County. The first time was by myself, the second time with a friend who wanted to see it. The most times I've seen a movie is four, and that was the original Shrek back in 2001.

Very few films have ever made me want to go back and see them again, especially now when technology makes it so easy to see them at home. And, like JoeZhang, time is the big problem. As a student, the local theater used to run double features. Saw Casablanca and The Maltese Falcon on a big screen a lot of times thanks to that place,

Rarely more than once---hardly ever in fact; not since I was a kid.

The only exception would be Raiders of the Lost Ark, which I have seen in the theaters ten times, and most of those times were when I was a kid and had tons of free time.

I haven't been to a movie theatre in ages. I have to really, really want to see a film to go to one. Usually only will go once to a movie and then wait for a home release on DVD or blu ray. I tend to go for the former as they are cheaper.

For the most part, barring some exceptions, I usually only go to the theater for those movies best appreciated on the big screen. The people that I enjoy seeing movies with don't all know each other, or are separated by geography, so I tend to see all the big stuff at least a couple times.

Looking at all the films released in 2015, I saw five, all twice with the exception of Star Wars (3 times) and Fantastic Four and Ant-Man (one time each)

The movie that I saw the most at the theater was The Artist....probably about twenty times. I have a deep and abiding love for Silent Cinema and it was incredible being able to see a silent film at the theater, and a new one at that. Plus it's an awesome movie and I caught most of those viewings at matinee's.

Other than that, the only movies I've seen more than twice have been the last several Wes Anderson movies, and the original Star Wars trilogy which I probably saw about four times each.

Everybody has that hobby or thing they sink a lot of money into, comics, action figures, sporting events, shoes or clothes, models, etc. I don't really have one of those, so I guess movies would be the closest thing to that for me. Ultimately these are all just irrelevant things we do to pass the time on our way to oblivion.

We don't go to the movies very often, so usually we just watch a movie once. But my son was so taken with Inside Out that we saw it three times in the theater. There are a couple theaters near us that don't charge an outrageous fortune for tickets, so we hit them, get a small drink apiece and share a small popcorn. That way, even though it's still treat, it's not a budget-buster.

I must say I can't even remember the last time I had snacks at the cinema. Would never buy them there as the markup is beyond ridiculous, but I've even stopped sneaking in snacks. Mostly, snack eating just annoys me these days. Why it that traditional cinema snacks are so loud?! We should have instigated a tradition decades ago that anything louder than say, a soft brioche roll, is socially unacceptable :)

Most movies just once, but I have seen some movies twice, usually with a different group of people. I've seen Star Wars twice, and will try to catch it in IMAX.
That will be the first movie I've seen three times since Fletch when I was in High School. I think I saw that five times.

Are you aware of the Wittertainment code of conduct? :)
