I'd be delighted if it was over before this one.

As season two is confirmed I'll be an optimist and say it will stop there.
Why be delighted with an early end? I get that you (and others) are not fans of this iteration and that’s totally fine. But why wish a premature end of something many other people ARE enjoying?

My wife likes a whole whack of shows I either don’t care for or actually dislike. I NEVER wish for them to end early, thereby ruining her fun, just because they don’t entertain me. I will never understand such an attitude.

At least a third, CBS won't be giving up on their platform's big draw that quickly. And as long as Netflix keep up the contract, it will run longer than that. I'd imagine we will end up with at least one additional spin-off too.
Yeah as long as it is only on the CBS pay per view as their main draw it will be safe, if it ever gets transferred onto the cable channel that is the time to worry, also Netflix is apparently paying big money for the show and it's doing pretty well financially from what I hear and paying for itself nicely.

Any attempt at cancelling the show would also have a detrimental effect on the CBS pay per view platform so they won't pull the plug unless they absolutely have to or develop another marquee show to replace it with.

If it continues to do well a spin-off is pretty much a certainty, could be based on another ship or starbase.

Doubt they would base it on the Enterprise though, that could be a bit tricky to pull off even though some would welcome seeing Captain April.

I'll go with five. that would end up with 60-65 episodes give or take. Enough for a decent syndication deal and DVD sales

In my opinion, it will end after season two. Producers said that Discovery was profitable even before show started airing. Naturally they got second season. And from now on number of viewers will determine if it will go on. We'll see how many viewers will go back for second part of season 1, let alone for season 2. I think that will be much smaller number of viewers.

Why? There is nothing to suggest such an outcome.

Because as long as Discovery is seen as successful (and that's arguable, but I'll assume it for this thread), we're never going to get an actual real Star Trek series again. CBS has thrown Star Trek under a bus; IMO, they are using this show to deliberately vandalise it. And to me, that's terribly sad.

I can't just write Discovery off as "not my thing", sorry. I've tried. The show makes me use phrases like "raped my childhood" unironically for the first time ever. I wish it nothing but failure.

I...don’t know what to say to such a thing. (Actually, I do, but as this isn’t the appropriate forum, I’ll keep it to myself.)

*shrugs*

As you wish. I'm not trying to fight or anything, but you did ask.

Discovery is an actual, real Star Trek series, wether you like it or not.

Yes, they are deliberately vandalizing Star Trek, that's a reasonable statement and absolutely what's happening.

Okay.:guffaw:

No it isn't, whether you assert it or not.

Yes, they are deliberately candalising Star Trek, that's a reasonbale statement and absolutely what's happening.
Well no, vandalising. I'm not sure what "candalising" would be, but I doubt they're doing that.
