How Long Do Hepatitis A & B Vaccines Last?

I'm about to do some travelling to Russia so I am getting all of my vaccines updated. The only two vaccines that I am not sure about are Hepatitis A & B. I had these vaccines before I did some travelling in 1997. WebMD's web-site says that Hep. A vaccines are supposed to last 20 years. Does that sound right? Immunize.org says that the Hep. B. vaccine is supposed to last 25 years. Does that sound right?

I went to the get my course of vaccination about six months ago. I asked the nurse last time how long they would last. She wrote it down. Apparently, I'm supposed to get a booster for Hep B after 5 years. You might need that one if you never got a 5 year booster.

She also wrote that Hep A lasts 25 years.

Got today fours different vaccines... au... and the doc actually told me about Hep. A and B, cause she says I should get them... but I didn´t listen too well, as I just was near fainting (injection-phobic! )...but I think she said a life time when you had three shots of them at point 0, 1 month later and then 6 months later again... well for B. A is only 2 shots I think...unless you do A and B together, than its three for both, but with weaker A bacteria....or so. Well but I could be wrong. *scratches head*

I just got off the phone with my Doctor's office. She said both last a lifetime. But then she didn't have any record of me having them. She logged onto a state web-site that is supposd to have all of your vaccines and it was missing a whole bunch of mine. I'm glad my life is in such good hands...

Don´t you have an inoculation pass yourself? Hmm...here every person carries one.
Well, they just could test your blood, couldn´t they? Then they know you got them and write it down into that web-site belatedly.

Its a variable situation with Immuninization. It really just depends on the individual. The majority of people will recieve the full benefit of the vaccine's immuninization period, but some people might need to recieve a booster every 5 years or so.

Vaccinations can be tricky, so its good that you are getting all the relevant information you can. And you can also take a Heaf Test (thats what we call it over in the UK), if they have a system for Hep A and B, to see if you are still Immune.

When I got my Hep A & B shots, I was told they'd last a life-time if you got them at the proper schedule.

If I remember correctly (it's been a while); the second one was after about 3 months and the third one was one year after the initial one but the third one wasn't needed for Hep A immunity.
