How is Janeway sexy?

Since I can't sleep, I'm Wikipedia'ing alcoholic beverages.

:D

:guffaw::guffaw:

I just learned something about the Gin Rickey:

The Gin Rickey was the first in a long line of Rickeys—long dry cocktails over ice, usually made without sweeteners. Washington DC is known for its movers, mixers, and shakers, but rarely are drinks named for them. Lobbyists are known to kick back a few with members of Congress, and Joe Rickey was no exception. After Rickey ordered seconds of a new gin drink at Shoemaker’s Restaurant, the bartender named the cocktail the Gin Rickey. It may not be so coincidental, then, that Rickey became the first major U.S. importer of limes.
You never need to shake a Rickey. Merely pour your ingredients into the glass. If you substitute ginger ale for club soda, the cocktail becomes a Buck.

Oh DD, I am with you there.

Drinks anyone?

Oooh, I never knew that about the Gin Rickey.

And I think I would definitely substitute the club soda with ginger ale.

That sounds good right about now...

ETA: Nope, still haven't. My girlfriend is in town on Wednesday so I'm hopefully going then.

I'm praying for you to hold out that long.

And my sisters definition of "taking me" is driving me there and me paying for it

And I cannot type in the dark.

I too have that problem.

Oh DD, I am with you there.

I'll have what she's having.

It looks like a Strawberry Daiquiri...

I admit I am the same way a lot. I'm not sure why we judge each other so badly. Are all ladies just jealous of each other, I wonder?

I think, no matter how much we deny it, there's always a sense of cattiness that stays with us.

...I've seen X Men too. Haven't you gotten the chance to see it yet, Honey? As a get-well present, your sister should take you.

I was supposed to on Saturday but generally when you have a 103 degree fever they suggest you stay away from people so I was on my couch all weekend whining about it.

And my sister, her definition of "taking me" is driving there and then having me pay for it

I'm hopefully going on Wednesday when my girlfriend is in town so we can go, if she doesn't show up well then that's my husband's Friday so if he wants to be in the clear again it'll be date night, or afternoon.

And I can't type in the dark.

ETA: If you hear about a woman in Northern California who has gone totally insane and I haven't posted, it'll probably be me. Just kidding

Actually this friend doesn't like airhead, subservient or sexy women either.

I've come to realize a lot of women don't actually like women. The other woman is always too sex symbol, too airhead, too angry, a bitch.. yet they swoon over male protagonists exhibiting similar behaviour.

I'm about to go see X Men so you are all spared my rant for the moment!

Enjoy!

No, we're not... and if we used to be, we tend to grow out of it as we age and learn to accept ourselves and our friends for their "selves" and what we can bring to one another.

My fav quote from journalist Linda Ellerbee demonstrates this idea. In the 1990's, she wrote an article about Katharine Hepburn and this one line stood out for me.

"Katharine Hepburn is the only skinny woman I never hated."

It stood out for so many reasons which I won't bore you with today, except to say... when one can accept oneself despite our foibles.. its easier to accept others that way too. :mallory:

Bottom line... Teacake; its okay to still love your Mulgrew/Janeway hating friend. Just don't invite her over for your annual Janeway marathon! :rommie:

ETA: thanks for AT/NN pic, teacake.. And if any consolation, none of my friends get SF/Janeway. Few get classical/opera/musicals love either, so plus ca change...:vulcan:

Truthfully I am a big fan of women and I generally find something great about female characters. I am not jealous of those skinnier, sexier or getting more attention. The older I get the more I admire all different kinds of women.

You're welcome, and for anyone else who wants to see LIVING PROOF that women only improve with age you can look at my tumblr photo of Amanda Tapping and Nichelle Nichols:

http://sphere41.tumblr.com/

It's not the "not getting" that upsets me, it's the mocking and eye rolling.

Okay not everyone finds tumblr accessible (I know it took me ages and switching browsers not to have problems with bugs) so I'm posting this WONDERFUL pic mentioned above in thread from my flickr. Spoiler tags since we are now (sorta) super off topic!!

[SPOILER="Amanda Tapping and Nichelle Nichols"[/SPOILER]

AND HERE IS SOME JANEWAY TOO!!!

^moar coffee! :)

tumblr working ok now; figured was just a glitch. And that picture soooo many levels of awesomeness! Thanks for sharing...

Amanda Tapping and Nichelle Nichols posing together! That's so cool! There aren't even any words for the coolness of that!

I have several friends who don't like Janeway. But they all get a pass because they like other women (some fictional, some real) who share Janeway's most important characteristics - confidence, intelligence, courage, independence, etc.

Honestly, I don't ever have any interest in entering into a serious friendship with a woman who isn't able to identify a handful of strong women as role models. (Potential male friends should also be able to point out strong women they respect, though the role model factor is optional.) Certainly, I have some casual friends who don't pass this test, but that's why they're ONLY casual friends. My admiration of Kick Ass Ladies - both fictional and real - is simply too big a part of my personality to allow me to emotionally connect with someone who doesn't share my views. I'm not sayin' I wouldn't go fishin' with 'em, but there's never going to be a real bond there.

I do this, Possum... only because I know you have a sense of humor! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFV8Aom_cVg be careful who you "fish" with. ;)

You know, now that I reflect on it further, women who don't like Janeway or Janeway-ish women would probably not be interested in going fishing anyway, seeing that it involves killing fish, cutting up dead fish, handling dead and half-dead fish, etc.

Saw this in the sidebar of the vid you posted.

I feel like your avatar is LOOKING at me, thinking... "Pitiful!"

Oh, J'Rulz, Janeway would never think that. Besides, this is clearly the under-the-eyebrow look she reserves for non-believers. ;)

(And here is said avatar, for the record, since I'm fixin' to change it for a Third Doctor one soon.)
