Kang struck me as a pragmatist in terms of strategy and fighting. He was less concerned with the abstract and more interested in practical applications of combat.

He schemed to assassinate his own chancellor. Framed Kirk and McCoy and prosecuted them himself to be sent to a gulag while being innocent. He fired at the Enterprise while cloaked and without risk for himself.
I am sorry but I don't see much honor in that.
That's Chang, played by Christopher Plummer. Not Kang, played by Michael Ansara.

In Greek mythology Achilles was given a choice between living a long secure uneventful life or the glorious short life of a warrior, obviously (otherwise we wouldn't have heard of him) he chose the latter.
Kor didn't seem to have much. He seemed more interested in glory and battle than honor in combat. Killing civilians to leverage against your enemy doesn't seem very honorable to me.And honour, let's not forget honour! He and Kor were the only TOS era Klingons that seemed to have it!

Kang, not Chang. Kang was in TOS episode "Day of the Dove" and declared "Only a fool fights in a burning house" against the alien being feeding off of the anger and hostility of both crews.
Chang was in the film "The Undiscovered Country" and had a tendency to quote Shakespeare. Also, an eye patch.

I think Ardra shouldn't have tried to get sexual with Picard. That never works.
Ardra was a beautiful alien lady.
Her mistake was to mess up with Picard. Picard's hubris comes before any kind of directive in the book. If she had just ignored Picard and concentrated on getting the planet and its inhabitants she'd be planetary queen for life.
Exactly. She could have simply demanded that Starfleet stay away, and the Prime Directive would have applied.
However, it seems like this planet was more regularly visited by Klingons, who (1) don't have a Prime Directive, (2) don't respond well to being kicked out, and (3) have probably forgotten more about cloaking devices than Ardra's crew knows. So what would have happened next is anyone's guess...
They talk about one dispute with one Klingon contractor; I don't think there was a crowd of Klingons milling about on the planet.
Maybe. Remember, though, Ardra had a holographic "Fek'lar" persona preset into her bag of tricks. That suggests that she believed that there was at least a possibility of having to "perform" for Klingons.
When Picard mentioned "the devil", Ardra did not assume that form, probably because she didn't have it available: she wasn't expecting to perform for humans. Once she was aware, she gained an image of the devil's traditional appearance (red, horns) and produced a holographic version. But the fact remains, she was ready with Fek'lar.
on the other hand, had this been a Phase II episode as intended...!
