How has your spouse responded to Star Trek?

My wife despises any and all Sci-Fi. before we met she was forced to live with my sister-in-law and her husband (who is a fanatic on ANYTHING of the genre) and was force fed what he wanted to watch at the time, mostly Star Trek.
To this day she refuses to even watch any movie, TV show, or even scenes.
I get her back occassionaly by recognizing a star or guest star from an episode and will say Why that's ..(insert character played here...) just to get her riled. Or I will say why that saying is from STAR TREK!!!!..... :klingon:

:guffaw::guffaw::lol:

I can't say my wife is so anti-sci-fi, but it is frustrating as Hell when they don't get your interests. My wife will even make negative coments at times when I turn on Trek ("You're not going to subject me to that, are you?) I'll relinquish the set, at which point she'll turn on Kate Plus Eight, or Horders or something. Talk about frustrating!!:ack:

Exactly! I will have to do the same thing about relinquishing the set, but I usually try to find something we will both enjoy.
On that point though I also have to be subjugated to watching her favorite TV or movies such as Parent Trap, Pretty Woman, Ghost, Dirty Dancing and such. :scream:

Oh yeah...in my case it is hubby to whom I turn over the remote when he walks in during Trek. It just isn't worth the snide remarks. Fortunately, he takes long baths, and that is my personal Trek time.

I see lots of ACTION/ADVENTURE movies that you two must be watching....

My SO ( Significant Other ) likes only the Trek movies. Oh, I can get them to watch a couple of episodes, but I'm the big Trek fan in this house

Mr. Teacake just isn't into any fantasy or science fiction. He watches stuff like Sopranos and Breaking Bad (which I have watched with him). He never watched an entire Star Trek episode and had a bad habit of wandering into the room during the most embarrassing ever Trek moments (Worf on a train in the holodeck dressed as a cowboy..)

He did get sucked into watching some scenes with the EMH because the EMH said something funny.

I tried to get him into Dr. Who, thinking maybe the production values and the way it doesn't take technobabble seriously might be appealing but he absolutely hated it. He said he would rather watch Star Trek, he really reacted to the silly fantasy elements of it. This made me sad.

He started watching NuBSG but was derailed early on when Starbuck jumped into a completely alien organic ship and flew it with little effort. He can't really suspend disbelief at all, the call to do so in a show makes the whole thing unwatchable to him. I of course have been deeply trained in the suspension of disbelief from an early age and can bravely do it in the face of complete idiocy.

Mr. Teacake is completely supportive of my going to conventions and is mildly amused by how excited I get about them.. he also once gave me some Vulcan ears, really good ones that suit my skin color and ear size.

I've already mentioned my wife was fully into scifi before we even met, but now she's started watching Torchwood without me! Can you believe the nerve?!

as much as i keep trying, i can't get her to watch the classics :(

Mine actually prefers Tom Baker to the current guy, and Tennent is her 2nd fave behind Baker. I'm showing her the McCoy ones too - he's MY 2nd fave. She doesn't hate him, but she's not crazy about him. We're watching the latest Baker release for our Saturday night movie this week.

I usually find a showing of "The Three Doctors" cures that.

I had a friend that was a hardcore Baker fan and after the 3 Doctors she had to see everything that came before...including the B&W Hartnells.

^Hang in there, Mike. There's 35 plus years of Star Trek out there. There's bound to be one episode your spouse will like.:techman:

Between me and the hubby, I grew up watching re-runs of the classic Star Treks; so now that they're on Netflix, I watch them all the time and he always wants to watch something else. I think he's jealous of Spock(I've crushed on him since I was 7) Oh, well. The Mister will come around eventually.
