How do Voyager fans feel about DS9?

I started a similar post to this in the DS9 forum asking how Niners feel about Voyager, and it was suggested to open the opposite thread here asking Voyager fans how they feel about DS9. Basically, I've heard stories about Trek forums from back in the days when hardcore DS9 and Voyager fans used to fight one another about how crap the other show was. Now that DS9 has been off the air for a decade I'm curious as to whether that rivalry still exists. So, how do Voyager fans feel about DS9?

I'm mainly looking for votes from people who consider Voyager to be their favourite Trek series, but it really depends on you as to whether you classify yourself as a Voyager fan or not.

As for myself, I am a Niner and will be voting just to screw up the percentages. After my recent rewatch of Voyager I have come to the conclusion that it was an okay show but it wasn't for me, whereas Deep Space Nine is a show which really grabbed me and has been my favourite TV show for the last 14 years.

And remember, keep it civil. I don't want to be responsible for breaking down the fragile peace we have accomplished.

I'm a big Voyager fan but I still think DS9 was far superior in story tellling.
By the time Voyager ended I still didn't feel I knew the characters as intimately as I did DS9's.

Have you seen any of the later seasons of the show? Because DS9 is about to change a lot, and some Niners don't think the show really began until the season 2 finale, so your opinion might change in a few months. Either way, I hope you enjoy the ride as much as I did.

Aaaaaaand there are those who think the series was brilliant from the end of season one/the beginning of season two onwards. I'd be one of those, for example.

Me too. It was a rocky first season, but once it hit Duet the show begins to come into its own. Although I also agree with Kegg that season 3 was a bit lacklustre and that season 4 is when they hit their second wind.

Anyway, this thread is supposed to be for Voyager fans to discuss DS9, us Niners have our own forum for that.

I can't vote because I never really watched it. Okay, I watched the first few episodes but my life at the time was a bit hectic so by the time I could get back to it I had a hard time following what was going on. Then Voyager came on the air and I started up with that.

Someday I may watch all the DS9 episodes. Someday I may also clean out my back closet and reformat the hard drive on my old desktop. Anything can happen...

I voted, and I don't think I screwed with the percentages at all. I loved DS9 but then I have loved all of the Trek Series with the exception of Enterprise and in all reality I don't hate it but I didn't watch it. To me every series from The Original Series down through Voyager were in general very good shows (each one had the occasional lemon of an episode but what series doesn't).

Going in I was prepared to hate Next Generation because I thought "Trek" was all about Spock and Kirk and McCoy and I didn't see how Trek could be about anyone else, but it was about other characters and I have loved them all. I have used a Jadzia Dax avatar on other boards (well along with the Hal Jorden Green Lantern but that's another story, and we won't talk about my reasons for using the naked Chakotay avatar on one in particular.)

My favorite Trek characters have been Spock, Picard, Lwxana, Worf, Jadzia Dax, Kathryn Janeway and Chakotay and like the Trek Shows themselves I love each one for different reasons and I am glad that I have them and their shows to enjoy.

Ghoul, nearly everyone has voted just to mess with the percentages. This whole thing is a waste, too many Niners just coming here to screw with us (which is just the continuation of the last 14 years...).

There's no harm done--you can figure the correct results with a calculator. And no reason people can't do the same on the Niners' poll...the whole reason that option was there was for lighthearted fun. Why is it our own poking fun of ourselves by offering that option (heck, even allowing people to have a shot at us in good fun) was taken as a life-or-death matter when we reversed the poll?

BTW, I didn't vote in this poll one way or the other.

It's not life-or-death, but in the DS9 topic most of the posts have at least answered the questions asked by the OP. Here most posts dodge the question and just make fun of the whole thing, like it's a topic not worthy of real posting. A waste of time if you're looking for real answers to your questions.

I'm tired right now and I've made my feelings clear in the past. No need to retread old ground at the moment.

I watched DS9 faithfully for several seasons until the local independent station suddenly joined NBC and started showing DS9 at various times over the weekend. It was difficult to stay up and watch when it came on at 2 a.m., and impossible to program the old VCR because the times were so unpredictable (thanks to football games going into overtime). I lost interest. When Voyager came along at a predictable and convenient time, I started watching and soon found myself indifferent about DS9, anyway.

Actually, I think it is brilliant to give the voters a "screw with the percentages" option! From the very beginning, Voyager has been the target of DS9 fans, and I've never really understood why that is. The large number of votes in that category reveals just how much some fans (usually DS9 fans) still enjoy screwing with Voyager. It isn't enough for them to love their show--they have to put down Voyager for some reason. And they seem compelled to come here to do it.

I wonder if the DS9 forum is plagued with disgruntled Voyager fans? I've never read a single thread there, but maybe I should go over and troll a bit! After all, turn about is fair play! (Just kidding, KimC ).
