how do i make firefox show chinese text?

Have you never been prompted to install it when going to a chinese site? -that's how I got mine!

Same - Firefox has invariably asked me if I want to install Chinese or Japanese fonts when I visit sites that use those languages.

i have a question along similar lines, does anyone know of or how to create a shortcut or "Ctrl +" code to turn Java on & off without using the menus?

I like turning the java adverts off, but forums & some websites do depend on Java to run, and dont always offer a basic version.

There is a free one called Bitstream available on the internet. Or get yourself a CD with Microsoft Office, one of the installation archives contains several fonts called Arial Unicode or MS Mincho.

Is it something like this: http://noscript.net/ you are looking for?

It sits as a small icon (which changes appearance depending on how much script you block on the current site) on the status bar, and a right click opens a menu where you can chose which objects you want to allow -and whether you want to allow them permanently or only for the current session.
