How different would the world have been?

How different to today would the world have been had the personal computer revolution of the 70s and 80s not happened and had only just happened around say 2010 or 2015?

Just thinking of all the other technology that happened as a result of that like cellphones and entertainment devices / TV, gaming consoles, and similar devices.

I'm wondering how different the world would be today had it all been delayed that much.

Well, most of the technological innovations of today are computer based, so we'd likely be very similar to the 70's and 80's. If you wanted to communicate with someone, you'd use snail mail or call long distance. For entertainment, there was TV, books, going to movies, and going outside and finding your friends. And if you wanted to learn something, you'd go to the library and look in an encyclopedia or a card catalog.

The Space Race started because Soviet nukes were heavy and primitive…giving rise to R-7.

I think human spaceflight would have an edge if the microchip had never been invented.

My guess is that—even with no microchip—-there would still be great demands for telecommunications….and an alternate history like FOR ALL MANKIND possible.

Instead of an astronomer’s hell of superconstellations with low-latency…we’d have Orbital Antenna Farms:
