How Deep Is Your Love for VOY?

Some of the earlier Voyager novels felt a bit off to me compared to what I saw on screen. The first one I really liked was Marooned by Christie Golden. I liked Mosaic and Pathways.

Apparently, a lot of those books were commissioned before the show was even filmed. I remember one book where Janeway referred to Chakotay as Number One and the Doctor was called 'Doctor Zimmerman'. I thought The Murdered Sun was the first time they were in sync with the characters as we know them on the show.

I'm a big fan of the Voyager novels, especially the relaunch novels by Kirsten MFBeyer....:)
The Mirror Universe Voyager short stories were a little bit too heavy for me.

I do know that "The Escape", "Ragnarok" and "Violations" were written before the show was aired and the authors only had the scripts as information. Still they are good books!

Compared to the series in which there were some not so good episodes, none of the season 1-3 books are downright bad. "Ragnarok" is my least favorite due to too much shhoting and fighting where nothing actually happens and some characters act a bit weird. Still, the premise for the episode is great and two very interesting alien races shows up.

You can find some informations about the books at the Kes Website! :techman:

Compared to the series, there are some small contradictions here and there but I don't have a problem with skipping that when I read the books. I've actually managed (with a little help from some friends) to fit the stories in the books into a timeline for the first three seasons of the series. And yes, I do consider those adventures as a part of the ongoing Voyager story, just like the episodes!

What actually surprises me is the amount of books written and printed in seasons 1-3 compared with the amount of books written and printed during seasons 4-7. Did the authors lose their inspiration when Kes dissapeared? ;)

there are a lot of great voyager books. The first ones that come to mind are The String Theory series, The Dark Matter series, The Nanotech Wars

There are far more books that take place after Kes left. The first 14 novels take place in seasons 1-3. After that there are 28 novels, and still more scheduled to be released.

These are exactly the books that I read. I don't remember any more what they were about but I remember being extremely bored by them.
People keep referring to this MAROONED so much. Maybe I should read it! Christie Golden is by far my favourite author. This is a CG book ... isn't it?

I wasn't referring to the Voyager Relaunch books, only to those who were written and published during seasons 4-7. There don't seem to be that many.

I must admit that I really like those books.

As for "Marooned", it's my second favorite book after "The Black Shore". Excellent book with Kes as the main character but lots of action for the others too. :techman:
I like Christie Golden's books. She did a good job with Voyager.

I loved Voyager a lot- a never understood why people loved DS9 it's whole premise was based on Deus ex Machina-the prophets I dunno I just couldn't stand the idea. And the Bajoran-religion episodes and dialogue-good God I hated that-the federation should have frankly told the bajorans "Grow up you stupid children their just super advanced extradimensional aliens or Good lord give the bajorans back to Cardassia.

The dominion-evil empire with absolutely nothing interesting about it- I swear Threshold's devolution plot makes more sense that gelatinous goo running a giant empire-that was terrible.

Oh and the character development (TM) what-okay yay Quark is no longer bad Ferengi.

Also the fact that the federation behaves terribly-I mean Sisko gets a Romulan ambassador killed, ruins a planet just to get one man, and behaves without the slightest moral compass.

You know why DS9 is popular known days-I'll tell you the fans and the writers by the early 90s no longer took utopia seriously, DS9 is hailed for being dark and "realistic" because for all intents and purposes it's RL in the 24th century-talk about Brannon and Braga but the cynicism of DS9's writers is astounding.

I apologize for my rant

I finally read some of the books. Eternal Tide was okay, at least we finally see some J/C action. I also read Pathways and liked it okay, I wanted way more background on Chakotay, though, and way less about Harry. Chakotay is a lot more interesting!!
Recently, I was unfaithful to VOY (blush) going all the way in the other direction by watching Downton Abbey. Great show and now I am madly in love with Thomas Barrow the gay underbutler :-) I still love Chakotay, of course, always will!

My love for VOYAGER just keeps growing by leaps ... and bounds! I'm just so glad that this forum is available, so that I can share my love of this series with all of you - I mean that. It's a treat.

I know I rail on about The Next Generation and I'll likely continue to do so. There's nothing else that even comes close to it, with the exception of VOY. It's so complimentary to TNG, you know? I feel really connected to it, in a way I didn't expect. It's good stuff ...

Well... to answer your question...

I really mean to learn you know?
cause I'm living in a world of fools
and they're breaking me down
when they all should let me be.
But really, It belongs to you and me.

Just so you know.

How much do you Love VOY? In what ways do you express it? Do you write volumes of Fan Fiction? Do you own every brand of Voyager merchandise? Do you keep your hair in a bun, like Janeway? Do you have a facial tattoo, like Chakotay?

Let me put it this way. I have written and read a good number of fanfiction stories based on the series. I have also written a good number of articles and episode reviews for my blogs.

I, too, have written some articles about STAR TREK, in general, for other people's blogs. T'was a passing fancy, really. I rather liked the idea of writing about STAR TREK, without having to answer impertinent questions like, "....how dare you?" It was all very one-sided, which I found to be quite satisfying. It was very much a matter of "... I've got the mic"
