How Deep Is Your Love for VOY?

I am here, that's a lot since I have never been on any forum for more than like 3 minutes. I just bought a few of the books and have actually read some fan fiction. Another first for me. I guess I am more into Voyager than into any other show ever.
Shying away from the facial tattoo, though my avatar has one.

I'm on a dying board for a series that ended 15 years ago. I cannot be swept away by another series. I may watch them but sporadically and not with devotion.
I see your point and I agree. The difficult thing is that if there is something which you really like and it ends, it's hard to like something else because you always compare it with the masterpiece.

It's the same with music as well.

However, I must admit that Stargate SG1 actually "saved me" when I was in my worst "lost of Kes and lost of Voyager" period. Mostly because of the characters who are great and paradoxally because it didn't remind me of Star Trek and Voyager. I'll say the same about Stargate Atlantis.

Otherwise I haven't found any SF-series to like and enjoy. Even the recent Star Trek movies feels week compared to "The real thing" which is VOY, TNG, DS9 and TOS.

Same for the criminal story series. CSI, CSI NY and CSI Miami have left a big, empty hole and when NCIS is finished (hopefully that will take many years) I'll probably throw out my TV! ;)

I also got into Stargate SG1 after Voyager. I liked Atlantis, but not Universe. One sci-fi series that I liked in more recent years is Warehouse 13. Also The Librarians which is similar.

I only got interested in the crime procedural shows after maybe 2008. I like Bones and NCIS. I haven't watched the others that much.

We watched the original Stargate but none of the spin offs.

After Star Trek I was into Tolkien, Doctor Who and Lost. Right now we're doing some procedurals and Person of Interest.

I'm actually watching Voyager as I type! After TNG, Voyager is my next favourite ST series. I have read all the books and I regularly read fan fic. LOTS of fan fic.

If I'm not watching Star Trek, I'm watching Doctor Who.

I'm watching the series for the 35th time. Need I say more? And I never skip episodes, albeit the only one that I don't like is FURY. But I watch that, too every time it is next in line.
I have read some of the relaunch books but since I'm not as enthusiastic about them as basically everyone else, I stopped after THE ETERNAL TIDE. I might go back, though ... who knows?
As most people are aware, I keep making Voyager desktop wallpapers in my free time. I have made nearly one thousand so far. Isn't this a sure sign of love?

For me, Voyager is by far the best show ever made (saying that it's the best Trek isn't saying much because I think all the other Trek series are boring - in various degrees, though). No other show has ever captivated me to this extent and I doubt that any ever will. My second favourite series would be StarGate SG-1 but when I think about all the tedium I had to go through when watching all those political episodes about how Kinsey (sp.?) is going to win the election with the Stargate (or maybe without it ... I don't remember any more), I come to realise that nothing comes anywhere near Voyager.

You know what they say: It's Janeway or no way ... So true.

I'm currently doing a rewatch of Voyager because I haven't seen the series in a long time. I've been enjoying it, and it's reminding me of how I do love this cast. I like TNG and DS9 better, but Voyager is third.

I rematch the series from start to finish, never skipping an episode...well, ok I do fast scroll thru most of "The Thaw" because I still just can't stand it, but I do adore the series from start to finish so much. I have rematched all the other series as well and having just finished a recent rewatch of Enterprise I have to say that to me, Voyager is the best of them all. But then again, I do love TNG, it is hard to choose :)

I agree. Voyager is "the real thing!

However, Stargate is OK and was definitely OK during a time when I simply couldn't or wouldn't watch Voyager for obvious reasons. I like the characters in SG-1 and Atlantis. Not like the characters of Voyager or TNG but still good.

As for the anniversary, here's a little song:

It was twenty years ago today
Captain Janeway taught her crew to play
They've been going in and out of style
But they're guaranteed to raise a smile
So may I introduce to you
The act you've known for all these years
Captain Janeway's Voyager Trek Band

We're Captain Janeway's Voyager Trek Band
We hope you will enjoy the show
We're Captain Janeway's Voyager Trek Band
Sit back and let the evening go
Captain Janeway's Voyager, Captain Janeway's Voyager
Captain Janeway's Voyager Trek Band
It's wonderful to be here in the DQ
It's certainly a thrill
You're such a lovely audience
We'd like to take you home to Earth
We'd love to take you home

I don't really want to stop the show
But I thought that you might like to know
That the crew is going to sing a song
And they want you all to sing along
So let me introduce to you
The one and only Starfleet-Maquis crew
Captain Janeway's Voyager Trek Band

Cheers!

Well, quite strong 1) to have watched the whole series in 2) to have read Jeri Taylor's books (Mosaic, which was very informative for Janeway's character, and Pathways) thanks to Internet 3) to have purchased the entire box set with its 7 seasons 4) to have asked to one of my friends to purchase the book, "Vision of the Future", a book on VOY's Behind the Sceneshttp://www.priceminister.com/offer/buy/86425928/poe-stephen-edward-a-vision-of-the-future-livre.html

And the only book I read, Atonement by Kristen Beyer, I didn't like it.(Sorry but, I can't imagine Chakotay becoming Capitain of Voyager or Seven/The Doctor together and working for a think thank.)

Anyway, I never did so much for a SciFi's series, even for X-Files! ;)

Kirsten Beyer's books need to be read in a certain order. I'm afraid ATONEMENT comes towards the end.
Having said that, I'm not as keen on them as everybody else. They are interesting and all but they are so much everything that Voyager is not ...

I prefer the seasons 1-3 books. I don't know how many times I've re-read "The Black Shore" and still find it exciting.

I think the Black Shore is one of the better written books of the numbered series but then Greg Cox is a really good writer. I enjoy his TOS books.
Only thing I didn't like about it was Tom gets mixed up with an alien woman...again.

Well, I read the first two or three books after CARETAKER in the numbered series, found them extremely boring and gave up on them altogether. Do they get better later?
I still think that of all the books I've read, the DARK MATTERS trilogy is the best novel. However, my favourite ST VOY book is the collection of short stories entitled DISTANT SHORES. Now that one ... is pure joy. I think it's so true to the spirit of the show. I've read it three times already ...

I've played around with the idea of starting a thread on the numbered novels but didn't know if there would be much interest in it.

My favorites are the two Christie Golden novels, the Murdered Sun and Marooned. I also like Echoes, The Black Shore, Battlelines and The Nanotech War. Seven of Nine is a good story but it's not what I thought it would be. I thought it would be HER story but I found out she was just the main character. It's a good story but the title is a bit of a deception.

I liked the Voyager book in the Gateways crossover.

Is it OK just to read the one Gateways book about VOY? Or do I need to read all the volumes to understand what's going on?

You can read it as a stand alone story but the weird thing about that particular crossover series is all of the books end on a cliffhanger and you have to buy the last book in the series to get the final chapter of each book (it amounts to being a collection of short stories). I liked it but was a little put off that I had to buy the extra book just to read the last chapter to find out what happened!

You might like the Voyager story in The Badlands series. A lot of that is told from Tom's point of view.
