How come no one is working on the Star Trek sequel?

All the actors keep saying they don't have any idea when it's shooting.

Orci and Kurtzman have some other new project announced like every week.

J.J. Abrams is directing that Figure 8 movie.

So its been more than a year since the movie and there's been essentially no movement on the sequel

Iron Man 2 was probably like almost in front of cameras already at this stage.

what are they doing?

It's only been a year. I'd prefer they go at least three years between films. There's no need to rush out any old crap.

You'd think since they were so eager to return to TOS they'd have tons of ideas but they dont seem know what they wanna do at all

and not rushing seems moot since they're all rushing into a zilliion other projects anyway

Not if those projects have sooner expected release dates.

It's being worked on. They were already putting ideas together for the film last I heard.

Bob Orci said on trekmovie.com a few weeks ago that he was reading Greg Cox's Eugenics Wars novels.

Me thinks a not-so-subtle hint has been dropped.

This is the guy who read Spock's World before co-writing the destruction of Vulcan.

At the very least, they'll know Khan's backstory in case they go Khanwards with the sequel.

There sure is a lot of hostility towards the film in this forum isn't there? Yikes

Aren't they aiming for 2012 for a release date? And a year for filming and postproduction right? So we're still early, way early.

Beyerstein isn't even going to go see it so why is he worried?

They've been talking about the sequel almost from the release date of the first movie. And as I understand it they have been working on the script or at least plot ideas.

The implication in this post seems to be, hey they don't really have an interest in the Star Trek franchise at all. Which to me is just another way to (not so) subtly bash them.

Even though I wouldn't vote for Khan in XII I am super pleased to read this. Doing their research.. plugging into the details of the mythos.. this is so encouraging. Much better than dune buggies.

OMG!!! It's been, like, five minutes since the last film ended! When will we see the next one?!

Relax people. Most films generally take 18 months to 2 years from Go to Whoa - give it time. It takes a lot longer than that to reach Development Hell...

They've been working on the script...the last thing I read about production was that were aiming for March of next year. I'd not worry either and if anything people should be glad that they're taking their time with this. I also wouldn't be surprised if we saw Khan in this movie in some form. It amuses me that "Star Trek" continually gets assaulted in this forum. It had it's flaws yes and the flares are annoying but I enjoyed the hell out of it and will be seeing the second one.

Wow. How did I miss that? Do you have a link?

Post 38 :)

(Don't blame me if it turns out to be some sort of fake. He posted there loads after STXI came out)

Thanks! I would have never found that on my own.

Very cool!

I'll go with fake, since the one on AICN turned out to be fake. They never appeared on any Transformers sites, so I don't know why they would appear on any Trek sites. Particularly just to post vague and meaningless comments.
