How boldly do you go out?

The other day I went to Best Buy, and as I am entering an older fellow walks out with nutrek science pin, I stopped and shook his hand. I have a few tee shirts none say Star Trek, but rather say things like Star Fleet, or UFP, a science blue TOS polo and a property of USS Enterprise polo. But I got to wonder how boldly do you dress outside of a convention.

I wore a fleet admiral's pin on the collar of my Member's Only jacket all through high school. I used to have a t-shirt a friend made for me with Data with Flava Flav's clock and teeth that said "It's an Android thing - you wouldn't understand" and I wore it out fairly often.

All of my t-shirts are nerdy, though - if not Trek, then Star Wars, Firefly, Infocom, Atari, T'Pau, Weird Al, and I even have one that Rickrolls anyone who reads it. I'm nerdcore for life, yo. ;)

I regularly alternate between different Starfleet insignia pins on my very non-Trekkish windbreaker (if I'm wearing a TNG-era pin, I'll even wear lieutenant commander pips on the collar sometimes). But I only wear that windbreaker during the fall and spring.

I also have a bomber-style jacket with TWOK-era insignia and a LCDR rank pin on the lower left sleeve, but I hardly ever wear that one as I tend to favor longer jackets.

That's really it. Most people don't even notice or don't think it's unusual. The very few that do recognize the insignias either smile and say "Star Trek!" and then go about their business. It's occasionally a conversation-starter or an ice-breaker with new people I meet.

I once was walking thru a local mall while wearing a "Romulan Military Academy" t-shirt. A stranger stopped me, identified himself as a member of the Klingon Defense Force, and "arrested" me. He asked me to accompany him into a nearby clothing store where he presented me to a woman who was shopping and said "Look what I caught, honey!"

I'm always wearing a baseball-style cap of some kind outside to shade my eyes. My most-worn ones are one with a Starfleet emblem, and another faux Navy cap that says "USOS Seaview, SSRN-1". I also occasionally wear a Nostromo cap and a few other genre caps.

The rear window of my car has a "Starfleet academy" decal.

I've got a couple of Trek t-shirts that are part of my "rotation", as well as several "space-themed" ones.

My mobile phone has a Star Trek 'red alert/yellow alert' app which reminds me when signal is lost, someone texts etc. Goes to blue alert on charging. I have had a few comments.

I also have a lockscreen Star Trek theme which displays the LCARS interace and a Trek style time, date and power display.

I colelct t-shirts and I of course have numerous Trek ones I wear. My 'Resistance is Futile', black t-shirt with the Borg logo is a particular favourite.

On a related note, I get very fed up with 'geeks' who feel ashamed or nervous about wearing t-shirts of their fandom in public. Seriously. Sports fans stroll around with their team shirt on, people wear tapout t-shirts.

For example, I am a pro-wrestling fan, as I type this I am wearing an AJ Styles t-shirt. I know many wrasslin' fans who are terrified of wearing a t-shirt in public. I always tell them to get a grip and get over it.

The only place I wear a t-shirt is the gym and the garden and even then they are plain - so not at all.

The ringtone on my phone is the end theme song of TOS. The text message notification sound is Majel Barrett as the computer saying "incoming transmission." I have a "Dammit, Jim" shirt and that's about it. Oh, a couple days ago I used Photoshop to put together a rough idea of an IDIC tattoo I want to get soon. My husband and I have also considered getting "Darmok at Tanagra" and "Jalad at Tanagra" tattoos lol.

Mostly I wear plain shirts, but I wear random tshirts from different properties once in a while. I have the jedi emblem on my rear window of my truck. My phone is entirely LCARS display; Along with TNG door chime for text messages, and TOS theme for my ringtone. And I have a metal Star Wars business card holder that is quite sharp looking.

I have one Star Trek t-shirt that's part of my t-shirt rotation.

My only other geeky shirt is a Mystery Science Theater 3000 "Greetings from The Satellite of Love" t-shirt.

It's just a TV show.

It was just a TV show but now I think it is a franchise, and anything short of a person walking down the street in a full sports team uniform, (helmet and shoulder pads, or pomp pomps) are so common they fall into the background, so again the geeky tees and such are common enough.

As for ringtones, I use the TOS chirp as my goto tone, red alert for the missus and the DS9 end transmission for texts, mostly folks don't pick up on it
