How about William Shatner for a voice over?

I'd be fine with that, but I feel if Nimoy gets a voiceover in the movie (and I bet he will) Quinto should have a complimentary voiceover, a thematic changing of the guard. A voiceover by Shatner would be, as it were, an echo from the past. A welcome one, though.

Oh and not to forget the thrilling adventure of the dueling Lazaruses (or is plural of the name Lazarus Lazarii? :p).
Nearly spit my Earl Grey all over the keyboard.
Lazaræ. ;)
According to Wiktionary, it is the following in the English language:
Lazarus (third-person singular simple present Lazaruses, present participle Lazarusing simple past and past participle Lazarused)
I'd take the whole lot with a grain of salt (Greek and Latin words often survive with their plural forms into English, you know), but I can't resist the opportunity to use 'I'm Lazarused' or 'I'm Lazarusing' at some point in the future.

Which really only applies if I've been resurrected or I'm dueling with my identical twin from another universe. So, any day now.

Well, I could also have died and gone to heaven, but I'd have to be a beggar first. No, thanks.

^ Oh, that wasn't meant seriously. "Lazaræ" was just one of my lame attempts at joking. I was trying to come up with another plural-sounding version of the name. "Lazara'a" would be another one. :guffaw:

^ Yeah, exactly. A bit meta, but another one could be just ... "Lazarus"! As in one Lazarus; two Lazarus ... ;)

^ Probably "Lazarusse". But we don't need the plural for "Lazarus" THAT often ...

I agree, it's not ST without the Shat.

If it's not Star Trek without "the Shat", then how do you account for those hundreds of hours of Star Trek that I've enjoyed that don't have Shatner in it? :p

Ok, let me rephrase it - it's not TOS without the Shat; and STXI will be a TOS-based film with old Spock/Nimoy and ALL TOS characters in it - so, it won't be TOS without old Kirk/Shatner. :)

Well, no offense, but I hope this movie proves you wrong. I adore the characters of Kirk, Spock, McCoy, etc. and I would love to see the roles transcend the original actors that played them, so we can continue to enjoy the adventures of James T. Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise for many years to come. :)

Of course it won't be "TOS" - that's The Old Show.
This is the new movie, featuring Kirk and Spock and all the rest of the gang. :)

TOS is The Original Show - I'm sure you know this. ;) But anyway, if XI was a completely new movie, they should have gone for a completely "new" movie, without Shatner AND Nimoy. But Nimoy's in, and this is a TOS-based movie, as I said before. The death of a character never was an obstacle for a scifi movie. The Shatner/Nimoy chemistry is unique and it has made Kirk/Spock the icons they are today. I've no problems with Pine and Quinto, but Original Spock without Original Kirk will feel incomplete. Let them do it - less chemistry, but more special effects, explosions, and popcorn for the kids.
