How about A "Star Trek" miniseries.

It could used as a chance to explore the new Abramsverse without taking away to much from future movies because it wouldn't involve many of any the main characters. A miniseries about Pike would be good. Better yet if you could get Nimoy involved you could explore Prime Spock's new life in the abramsverse. It would actually be the best of both worlds in a sense. It would be something that intrests the new fans and the old fans because it would be Nimoy. Since it wouldn't be a ongoing series you could proably get Nimoy to do it. Plus you get to explore a intresting topic and that would be the Vulcan situation with their planet being destroyed. MAybe a Captain Robau series would be fun as well. It also would be sort of blend of Abramsverse and Roddenberryverse trek since the Robau character was created for this movie but in theory his adventure would have to take place in the Roddenberryverse before the timeline diverged. Granted you could explore a pure Roddenberryverse trek story as well with him but I think that might confuse people if you start going into huge detail about how both Timelines still exsit at the same time.

I want a series where old Spock tells the Federation about future threats such as the doomsday machine and Starfleet send out a ship to sort out all these threats early. Obviously things never go according to plan.

Mini series could be cool. Workable too, since big name actors will stick around for filming when there's a completed script (as there would be with a mini series) - unlike a TV show which writes as it goes. The thing is though mini series aren't really popular with mainstream audiences for some reason.

Actually we have had a few that were pretty popular. Taken,The Stand and Battlestar Galatica. "Star Trek" is a brand name that would pull people in as well. In fact this is a type of Trek that could get good ratings on network Tv IMO. It would feel like a tv event and I think people would watch. My dream scenario would be to show the first part right after the "Super Bowl" and then show part II on Monday and Part 3 on Wednesday. You could capture some of the Super bowl audience and then get people to tune in on Monday after a hard day of work and then give people a break from Trek for a day and build up some ancipation for the final chapter and return on a Wednesday.

Sounds like a great idea for a sitcom, actually.

They stop the threats Old Spock knows about, but accidentally start a chain of events that leads to something worse.

It doesn't play to mess with the timeline.

Get a major network to invest in a BIG EVENT tie-in miniseries that's filmed at the same time as the next movie (using some of the same actors, sets, productions resources - to same money while giving it a big budget Hollywood feel) - and air it in the weeks leading up to the (next) movie's premiere...

That's about the only way you might get Trek back on TV for the time being. But it is still very unlikely. Considering the fact that Star Trek has finally gotten its "Blockbuster", TPTB will likely keep it on the big screne until the cashola dries up.

I still think we should have at least one more motion picture first but I definitely like the mini-serie format. It worked well for Dune/Children of Dune, so it's just a question of good writting.

I actually think the miniseries as a back door pilot idea is a good one. They could see how it did and gauge how much of a buzz it generated. Would people really want to see more of it.

I think the rebooted original series Enterprise and crew is staying big screen. So I think the show would probably be something else. Lots and lots of ideas as to what that could be. Id still like to see a proper birth of the federation story. NX-01's journey was just getting to the juicier part of the saga when it got clipped. But there are lots of other things that i wouldnt mind seeing either.

I would also prefer a separate production team that makes it.

Keeping it on the big screen doesn't preclude putting it on the small screen. Entertainment corporations are all about "synergy" across various media, yknow....

Plus, putting it on the small screen is the best way to tell a more myriad variety of Star Trek stories and be able to do "talky" stuff that wouldn't fly in a blockbuster.
