Hot as H - E - Double hockeysticks!

It's another foggy morning. We've been getting a lot of fog here lately....

..and rain and much cooler than normal weather for this time of year. There are apparantly a series of lows which have created a trough, which for the most part have kept the heat well away from the north east (thank the godz ) I sleep with the bedroom slider open allowing in very comfortable 50F air, and most of June barely scratched the 70s. No hot weather in sight, either. This was the most comfortable June ever, plus I haven't had to run the a/c at all :techman:

I live in Northern California, and it is HOT AS ASS today.

Right now, it's 103. It was 106 here earlier.

Supposed to be 107 tomorrow.

We must be neighbors. Same place, same weather conditions. All I can say is thank God for air conditioning. Without it, I'd be even sicker than this damn weather has already made me.

Makes me long for the Christmas season. Shorter days, cooler tempatures.....

Oh well. At least I can take a cold shower.

We might be neighbors. We live outside of Sacramento.

108 right now.

Good grief...

Yep, we're neighbors. I'm in Sacramento too, about two miles from Elk Grove. And I agree, it's been hotter than hell. At least it's tapered off to the mid 90's for the next few days.....

Portable air conditioners don't work unless you install them properly in such a way that the hot air can't just come back inside. Hanging the pipe out the window doesn't work.

And if you do install them, they cease to be portable.
Don't you guys have window units over there? Or are they just not practical for some reason?

^ I know very few houses that have ac over here. We would only need it 3 days a year anyway. I'm happy with my punkawallah ;)

It's the window frames usually. Am I right in thinking that window units usually fit inside the frame of the window ?

Most windows in our houses open outwards rather than upwards.

You're entirely correct and now I understand. Window units fit inside the frame. You raise the window, insert the unit, close the window until it hits the top of the unit (forming a seal and holding it in place) and then turn it on. When fall comes or you have to move, you just take it out, close the window and take it with you.

The concept doesn't work very well with windows that open out, for obvious reasons.

We had some pretty intense storm activity for a while this afternoon.
