Indeed we do.
It's another foggy morning. We've been getting a lot of fog here lately....
..and rain and much cooler than normal weather for this time of year. There are apparantly a series of lows which have created a trough, which for the most part have kept the heat well away from the north east (thank the godz
) I sleep with the bedroom slider open allowing in very comfortable 50F air, and most of June barely scratched the 70s. No hot weather in sight, either. This was the most comfortable June ever, plus I haven't had to run the a/c at all 
Yep, we're neighbors. I'm in Sacramento too, about two miles from Elk Grove. And I agree, it's been hotter than hell. At least it's tapered off to the mid 90's for the next few days.....

to me, 80F is a little warm..but not hot..

No I'm happy with the 80's, thinking of installing a young man in a loin cloth with a fan thou ~ purely for aestetic reasons
Don't you guys have window units over there? Or are they just not practical for some reason?
It's the window frames usually. Am I right in thinking that window units usually fit inside the frame of the window ?
Most windows in our houses open outwards rather than upwards.

You're entirely correct and now I understand. Window units fit inside the frame. You raise the window, insert the unit, close the window until it hits the top of the unit (forming a seal and holding it in place) and then turn it on. When fall comes or you have to move, you just take it out, close the window and take it with you.
The concept doesn't work very well with windows that open out, for obvious reasons.
