Ultimate Final Girls In Horror: From Laurie Strode To Sidney Prescott & Dorothy Gale
From ‘Laurie Strode’, to ‘Sidney Prescott,' The final girl trope has been around since the 70s but does it go back further?
Eel O'Brian, Ralph Dibny and Reed Richards combined couldn't make that stretch successsfully.Dorothy Gale? That would seem to be a stretch.
And I haven't watched the movie in a long time but I don't recall a series of other murders that lead up to her survival. As for WIZARD, Dorothy's the only girl within the main action, which invalidates any ''final'' adjective.

Don't give them any ideas. It's like the typical kind of discussions nerds have amongst ourselves. Arguing for some stupid stretch of logic just for fun...except then they wrote an article around it for Deadline.
The weak justifications they use to try and cram Dorothy into that box are stupid.
And I haven't watched the movie in a long time but I don't recall a series of other murders that lead up to her survival.
Plus you'd have to make a strong case that The Wizard of Oz is a horror movie before you can try to pretend that Dorothy counts as a final girl.![]()
Of all the college instructors I've ever encountered, only one of the English profs classified WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? as science-fiction, putting it into his SF course. I might never have seen it if he hadn't....and I admire his Kobayashi Maru-ness in his decision. I do feel he's got a far stronger case than the flake who selected Dorothy.*Plus you'd have to make a strong case that The Wizard of Oz is a horror movie before you can try to pretend that Dorothy counts as a final girl.![]()
