I'm gonna leave this right here then.

So...not a phone game, but a crowd funded game. That's a little disappointing given Gearbox's involvement.
Clearly not a coincidence this coincides with the 20th Anniversary sale of the games on Steam.

ETA: Skimming through the info page, there is mention of a "Homeworld Mobile" listed in the backer rewards, but there's not details on what the is so far as I can see. Probably some companion app, or maybe a watered down port of the original for mobile?

The "crowd funding" amount was set at $1. From what I've read around this doesn't need to be crowd funded because it is funded by Gearbox already. This seems like a very cynical move by Gearbox to profiteer off the idea it is "crowd funded" when it's really just a rebranded pre-orders for various "collector editions".

Anyway, glad that there is going to be Homeworld 3. I'm sure I'll buy it, but I'll not going to drop any money until it is done.

I quite enjoyed Homeworld 3, but the fan reaction has been an absolute shitshow and really drags the whole vibe down.

When you deconstruct a game such as Homeworld, isn't it just rock/paper/scissors with an arms-race accelerant? In the one-player game, the stronger your forces are, the stronger the computer's are, which did seem frustrating to some - pretty typical of such games though. I found the original story compelling being Battlestar Galactica adjacent, but Cataclysm and Homeworld 2 were pretty average. The remaster trashed important aspects of Homeworld - especially formations - and lost the rights to use the end-theme by Yes, which evoked a sense of caring about the game scenario. It looked prettier, but the gameplay sucked. I haven't bothered with Deserts of Kharak or Homeworld 3 as I'm too old to care. A strong story is a must for me and I now prefer games that allow you to dream up your own storyline for the events onscreen. Which reminds me that I should probably try Rimworld - even though it looks king of depressing if you're not already in a good place in reality.

I recall scaling of enemy strength being a major headache in the sequel. There were one or two missions where I actually scrapped a whole bunch of ships at the end, just to make the next one less frustrating.

HW1 didn't seem so bad, at least before the remaster. Though I stole so many ion frigates from that mission near the end (the one with a huge sphere of them) I probably just overwhelmed whatever scaling was in place, lol.

HW1 and Cata didn't have difficulty scaling, that was added in Homeworld 2. And Homeworld Remastered was basically a Homeworld 2 upgrade with a Homeworld 1 total conversion mod included; all the aspects of how the game actually worked were as they were in Homeworld 2, with a few features from Homeworld 1 added in in the area of unit formations and tactics.
