Holy Trinity of Science Fiction - Excommunication Round

Excommunicate ONE from the following:

  • Total voters
    62
  • Poll closed .
Star Wars. It's a fantasy series. It only carries the trappings of science fiction. And the prequels were especially weak films.

I sincerely hope that all the people who voted to get rid of Star Wars misunderstood what they were voting for. :vulcan:

This is to determine the "Holy Trinity of Science Fiction", Star Wars is not really science fiction to me. If this were a Science Fiction/Fantasy poll, then I think it should stay even though I dislike it.

Yuck. The Twilight Zone, Trek, H.G. Wells and Doctor Who can all go without incident. But kicking B5 and Star Wars out? You guys must be out of your minds!

I confess, I voted B-5 because I think it's the least iconic of the remaining choices.

It's an excellent series, but most people, even a lot of sci-fi fans, have never seen it.

If we're talking iconic properties in popular culture, then Babylon 5 should have been gone after the first round. Without airings on television, the fanbase is at its best when it manages to shrink only a little bit--forums like this excepted, of course. But if that's the metric, then we could have just chosen Star Wars, Star Trek, and Twilight Zone and be done with it (Doctor Who would likely take the place of the Serling series in some markets).

Well, I guess I would consider B5 less impactful on myself personally than stuff like Isaac Asmiov, Star Trek, and Star Wars. So, even if I misunderstood the spirit of the poll, I stand by my vote.

BTW it's been said in the previous threads but it's a little weird that we're comparing authors to TV shows to movies, etc. How do I weigh Isaac Asmiov the author against Star Trek the TV series? It's a little like comparing Buzz Aldrin to the Space Shuttle.

I voted off Star Wars.

Why is the guy named Yoda voting off Star Wars? Because I started using this handle on the internet in 1993! Heck, George Lucas might not have even contracted whatever mental illness led to the prequel trilogy yet back then!

Buzz Aldrin is WAY better than the space shuttle. Sheesh!

At least we agree about the prequel trilogy...

Wait ... you want to eliminate the guy who wrote "The Time Machine", "War of the Worlds", and "The Invisible Man" -- essentially inventing three subgenres of science fiction, but you want to keep Star Wars?!

I'm sorry, really sorry, but can we start this thread again?

TOO MANY of us voted the wrong way because the rules were changed and we made assumptions. Yers, I know wehat they say about assumes. Bite me.

Think of a different way. Vote for 3 again, or vote for all bar 1.
