Holy sh*t!! Red Dwarf is back!!!!

Re: Red Dwarf: Back to Earth

^ Indeed, i';m looking forward to this at least as much as Star Trek.

They ever said if the movie got off the ground they'd like to some how manage to have a studio audience there for the filming of that...

Heh, I doubt the lines will be quite as funny when delivered for the 50th time against a green screen

You are probably right about them discarding the cliffhanger.

I don't think it needs wrapping up.

It needs not to have silly cliffhangers left dangling, but i'd be quite happy with them condemned to wander the lonely stars for the rest of their lives. That was the feel of the show to start with, depressing and hopeless.

What? :p

The first 2 seasons were quite a downer, that's why they are my favourite.

Rimmer & Lister hate each other and there's virtually no life of any sort encountered and the Cat isn't around enough to break the tension between them, miserable music, grey sets, a monotone Holly. I think they brought Kryton in to insert a bit of slapstick relief in to distract from the depressing concept. Especially when they realised the Cat was only good for one joke

[EDIT - I got rid of a mistake and the entire post fell apart around me :(]

Apart from that, I refuse to believe the Remastered episodes, series VII, the last half of series VIII or the US pilots ever happened. I'm hoping these new episodes manage to reclaim some of the feeling of the first two series. And Paul Alexander has absolutely nothing to do with it :p

OK, this sounds a bit weird, but I suppose Red Dwarf have made stranger things work.

From Digital Spy
Filming of two new episodes of cult TV series Red Dwarf began filming over the weekend on the set of Coronation Street.
The two-part special, entitled Red Dwarf: Return To Earth, will see Dave Lister - played by Craig Charles - finally succeed in his desire to make a comeback to his home planet.
As part of the plot, Lister's crew, made up of Rimmer (Chris Barrie), Kryten (Robert Llewellyn) and Cat (Danny John-Jules), go in search of him and instead bump into Charles's Corrie character Lloyd Mullaney in The Rovers Return.
As part of the filming, Weatherfield's Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) also made an appearance.

...

According to the show's official site, filming of the episodes is due to officially commence at Shepperton Studios on Monday, February 16.

^ It is a great episode, that's true. I find the 2 series to be about equal. Each made a fatal and insurmountable error, VII in not having Rimmer for the whole series, VIII in returning to Red Dwarf with a full crew compliment which gutted the feel of the show for me.

This Corrie idea sounds great, although I am not a Corrie fan it seems like a fun concept.

I never noticed an RD thread here.

The Corrie stuff sounds like it could be fun, though I initially thought it could be for the behind the scenes ep.

there was a couple of photos from the Corrie filming in the Mirror yesterday. they were saying that Kryten tracks Lister down on Earth and finds him living on Coronation St. and mentioned that CC could play both Lister and his Corrie character...

The smeg is back, baby. I hope it's good. So many years now they wanted to make am ovie, but financial backing kept falling out (and one case being fake to begin with) and our hopes dashed.

One wonders: if the special is successful, would that be enough to bring back the show? But are our favorite actors still at an age to do this work? Filming of a TV show can be long grueling hours. It's why Lance Hendrikson said he wouldn't be doing anymore TV shows.

Craig Charles is in a 3 year contract on a soap, Danny is on a kids show, Chris does Massive for Discovery, and Robert does some shows for Discovery too I believe. So I guess they're up to it, but who knows if BBC Worldwide would fund more.

Re: Red Dwarf: Back to Earth

I too am wondering if Kochanski is going to be in this or not. And what about Rimmer? Is he going to be the hologram of Series I-VII that left at the end of "Stoke Me a Clipper" or is he going to be the human version from Series VIII that didn't remember the rest of the series?

And when/how are they going to release this on DVD in the U.S.?

Kochanski did the taste testing at the end. I think it's on the series 7 DVD.. or possibly series 4.

For some reason, they decided to put it on the Series IV DVD set despite the fact that it was made during the 1-year hiatus between Series VII & VIII. (If the copyright date isn't enough to give it away, also note that everyone is in their Series VII costumes, yet Kochanski clearly has Series VIII hair.)

I'd think it would be on BBC America first, since BBC Worldwide are producing it.

I thought it was only in the last year or so he gave up Scrapheap, though that may be down to only finding out at the end of last year.

I had no idea DDJ was doing kids TV. I still get surprised seeing him in Blade 2.
