Holy sh*t!! Red Dwarf is back!!!!

^ Haven't seen that either actually, i followed what people were saying about it here and decided not to bother.
Hyperdrive was another one that had its moments, but I thought they were far too few and far between.
Red Dwarf VII has its share of good laughs, if the episodes themselves aren't fantastic.

I can't comment about Red Dwarf VII on a whole, but I can point out both the opener about (among other things) JFK's assassination and the episode with Ace Rimmer as two of my favorite installments of the series. I thought the increase in production values really made the series come alive. Before it had great writing to carry things, but in series VII the environment suddenly matches the words.

But your mileage may vary.

I've heard terrible things about Hyperdrive. I haven't bothered giving it a look yet.

Oddly, when I went back & rewatched Series VII & VIII after about 6 years or so, I found that Series VII in general & Kochanski in particular were much better than I remember. Meanwhile, I found Series VIII to be horribly uneven and even the best episodes a poor substitute for the greats of Series I-VI.

The golden age of Dwarf was clearly series IV, V & VI. Hardly a dud among them.
I think alot of people overstate some of the problems with VII & VIII, I tend to think they're more or less on par with I, II & III.

Late to the Appendix Debate; but a great fan theory is that Lister's appendix was regrown in DNA when he was transformed back from a hamster to a human being.

Did anyone like the Extended episodes? I liked the extended JFK one where it turns out it was Lister that took the currys before they were destroyed.

I prefer the extended episodes, if only because they are without laugh tracks (if I'm thinking of the right thing). Red Dwarf didn't need a laugh track once it moved past the sitcom format and became a space comedy.

"Quarantine" is one of the most funniest episodes ever! Does anyone else agree? I was litereally in my house alone, when my parents had gone out years ago... I watched it for the first time, and when they came back I was in tears of laughter... with looks like :cardie: coming from the folks.

Mr Flibble is a legend!

This was on Dave last night i remember the first time i saw it as soon as i saw Rimmer in that dress i lost it.:guffaw:

A very popular costume at conventions amongst the male fans, according to the commentary!

I fully agree with this. I like VII and III a lot more than I, II and VII though.

That put Tikka to Ride from my top 20 RD episodes to my top 10.

The first and second series have a kind of shoestring-budget, minimalist, truely isolated charm to them.

*shrug* I just prefer IV, V and VI. For me, there's not a lot wrong with ANY series. One or two episodes I don't like so much, but in general any Dwarf is good Dwarf.

That's exactly why they are my favourite as well, in fact as comedy goes it's pretty damn depressing, but some of the best comedy is tinged with tragedy I find.

It didn't need a budget anyway, it was just about a few guys stuck in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do.

I'm in the IV, V & VI camp, with it's broad appeal... But having Red Dwarf back, no matter how short is fantastic news. I'd have been happy if they reunited for a 8 minute Comic Relief special... so a whole episode is enough time to tell a decent story.

While we wait, somebody Smoke me a kipper.

I tell you what, they sure are taking their bleedin' time about confirming any of this. I've checked the site every day.

The only comforting thing is that the only rumour that gets a mention on the official site is Robert's suggestion that there will be a one hour special, which is preferable to the four 30 minute nostalgia eps, if indeed that is what they are.
