Hollywood icon Tony Curtis, RIP

If you haven't seen The Defiant Ones, where he co-starred with Sidney Poitier as escaped convicts handcuffed and forced to work together even though they hate each other, then you're missing out on another part of his legacy -- he was a great dramatic actor as well as a comic one.

There was a thread a while back, can't remember when/where, that ended up talking about that Geordi episode where he's forced to work together with the Romulan on the planet, and it was quite surprising that several people weren't aware of its homage to the The Defiant Ones.

It's a really solid movie.

I always liked Tony Curtis a lot. He should have been in more big movies. The Defiant Ones really showed that he had talent that went largely untapped in his career.

^ Actually, speaking of The Defiant Ones, when Voyager was first being described in publicity puffs etc, that movie was frequently used as a comparison. The idea of two unwilling companions (Starfleet and Maquis) who don't really like each other but have to work together to get to where they want to go.

And yes, it's a great movie and Tony's performance was great, as was his dramatic role in Spartacus.
