Hobbit: Battle Of the Five Armies anticipation thread

Yeah, in the book!

I'm sure in the movie there's a fifteen minute sword fight between Bilbo and a thousand Orcs. :)

That looked incredible! I already saw several invented action sequences that I'm sure will be quite cool!

So... does ANYONE think Tauriel will actually survive this movie?

Oh, thank Christ. For a second there I was worried that there wouldn't be another fight on a river with ridiculous CGI physics. Crisis averted.

It looks like it will be good, but thankfully my expectations have been significantly lowered by the previous installments.

Here's adding a 3rd Hobbit movie to my list of "hope they put out a version with all these ridiculous scenes removed" list.

While I have enjoyed them so far, I have definitely found myself in that camp as well. So many extraneous, drawn-out action sequences.

No, I had her marked as a red shirt from the moment she was announced. I figure her death will spur Legolas to recognize that his father's isolationism is ultimately futile, which will lead him to become the character we see in The Lord of the Rings.

Nice inclusion of "The Edge of Night."

Unfortunately, that was the only aspect of the trailer that really had me revved up about. Don't get me wrong, I'll see this film on opening night, but I just don't have the same kind of enthusiasm as I did with The Lord of the Rings.

My only thing is that, especially now with a new SW trilogy coming out, I feel like they need to make a post-LOTR trilogy. If you're gonna make two trilogies, you might as make a third. A trilogy of trilogies, if you will.

What story is there to tell after LOTR? Most of the Elves have left Middle-earth by the beginning of the Fourth Age, and the few who did remain leave eventually or fade away. Sauron is gone. Mordor is gone. Gondor and Arnor have been reunited, and they and Rohan are experiencing a new golden age. Tolkien tried to develop a story set after LOTR, something like 150 years later, but quickly abandoned it.

I can see them doing a movie or two set between The Hobbit and LOTR (probably focusing on Aragorn in his youth), but I don't see much in the Fourth Age that's worth exploring.

The trailer looked good, but I agree with you all about the glut of invented action sequences. I really wish we'd gotten to see the original duology.

Oh, I'm not saying there's actually a story to tell, just that I feel like somebody could easily make up a third trilogy if they really wanted to.

That's the spirit. No story to tell, but let's make a trilogy anyways.

I'm liking Thorin's characterization there. He's a flawed character and I think his other side is shown through quite strongly there. A Dwarf vs. Elf battle is something that will be fun on screen.

Let's face it, lots of scenes were blown up into something bigger than they were, but the Battle of the Five Armies is the one Hobbit moment that should be epic.
