High quality animated sci-fi shows?

If you're in the mood for some Tron type action, Reboot is coming out on DVD soon.

Yeah, gotta recommend this one, too, if you can find it.... The first season is quite shakey, but once you get beyond that, it's pure awesomesauce... it's really quite amazing just what they were able to get away with, given the time that it came out. These days, some of the more risque humor and plot developments can be seen as a bit par for the course given how shows are done these days, but for the mid '90's, this series was quite ahead of its time.

Another thumbs up also for Gargoyles. Most of what I said about Reboot could also apply to this show... great arc-based storytelling, character development... good stuff all around. Easily my favorite Disney animated series, along with Darkwing Duck...

If you're interested in some comedic sci-fi, I might also recommend the Duck Dodgers animated series from a couple of years ago. It was quite solidly written, both as comedic SF and as probably the best Looney Tunes-esque series since Animaniacs (was about to write best WB animated series, before I remembered the DC animated canon, which is also quite excellent).

Whereas I didn't care for it at all. It wasn't a style of humor I found funny, and it was profoundly unlike Chuck Jones's style or his portrayal of Duck Dodgers. I mean, in the show, Dodgers/Daffy was actually borderline competent! Yes, he did stupid things sometimes, but he generally managed to achieve his goals in the end. Jones's Dodgers, like all of his Daffy-as-hero characters, just made things worse and needed Porky to mollify the damage he caused.

Also, the writing was weak and overdependent on excessive, redundant dialogue. Characters would use twenty words to convey a joke that Chuck Jones could've sold with a single facial expression. The pacing was just horrible.
