Hey, I never noticed that before....

In Shore Leave I had never clocked the brilliant Kirk/Spock bromance moment when Kirk is bitching about his back and the Yeoman starts trying to help with it and he is so close in his relationship with Spock that he first assumed that Spock was the one prodding him.
I always took it that Kirk simply hadn’t noticed Yeoman Barrows was there.

I thought it was a bit strange that Kirk would think Spock would rub his back on the bridge. I could see it maybe after a workout, but the bridge?

Since Spock asked if there was problem and was standing behind the Captain's chair and it appeared to Kirk that Yeoman Barrows got the papers signed and left it looked to be a natural assumption that it was Spock doing some pressure point to his back.

The robes wouldn't have been Spock's choice, it comes with the lifestyle he was seeking out. It's his new uniform, essentially. I dunno if his Starfleet uniform was to his liking, either, but when on the Enterprise/Vulcan...

I noticed something today as Kirk was stealing the Enterprise from Space dock in TSFS STIII. Scotty tells Kirk everything is automated and two trainees and a chimpanzee can run it, and Kirk gives them the opportunity to leave. Of course Scotty, etc., choose to stay. But Scotty IS needed to reprogram the space dock doors. Maybe Scotty could have done the programming from the base. But it sure looked like Scotty needed to be there.

When the flying thorn plant aims for Kirk, Spock yells Jim! and runs to push him out of the way. Kirk tells him later "Just yell. I can step out of the way as quickly as the next man." But Spock did yell.

Spock only yelled, "Jim!" I think Spock would've needed to yell something more informative like "Jim, duck!" or "Jim dodge-roll!" :)

They should just phaser those flowers from the get go. There they are, one crewman dead, and they are standing in front of another plant.

well they just lost a crewman to those flowers. I think Jim is smart enough to not need a long explanation, a glance and a roll. But there wasn't much time. Spock yelled then pushed kirk out of the way, standing of course right in the same spot instead of rolling himself. I guess it happened too fast. Though that plant did turn pretty slowly before firing. IMHO

Spock yelling "Jim!" doesn't tell him anything other than trying to get his attention which doesn't help in moving Kirk's center of mass out of the way. Spock would've needed to communicate a direction to evade to as Kirk didn't have situational awareness of his surroundings. But yeah, Spock ended up in the same spot to get hit wasn't good. In hindsight, tackling might have taken both out of the line of fire.

A phaser sweep might've worked but maybe there was too much of a risk for the beam to go further down range and cause unintentional problems?

Captain's Log, Stardate 3715.4:
While making a routine exploration of Gamma Trianguli Six, one of my men has been killed by a poisonous plant. I immediately ordered a phaser sweep to kill such plants in the area, and this started a brush fire that ran out of control and burned down a native village 17 kilometers away. The fire is still raging. I am now making arrangements to teach the natives about sex.

Reverse psychology?

In baseball, when a foul ball came near the dugout, someone would always shout "Heads up!" That was supposed to be a cue to duck, i.e., put your damn head down!

I remember doing launch support at Cape Canaveral, when there was a spectacular explosion of a Delta rocket shortly after liftoff. The safety officer droned over the intercom "All personnel, take shelter from falling debris." Naturally, everybody on our staff headed towards the doors to get a look at what was going on.

I heard that in Zapp Brannigan's voice.

Since when has a phaser set on stun or kill, ever set anything else on fire? It's rather ridiculous, that even on a ship, it vaporizes a man, but leaves everything else untouched. And no residue.

I mean it can heat up rocks so there is a fire setting in there somehow.
