Hey, I never noticed that before....

The Lights of Zetar :

In the briefing room scene the Captain has a large pimple to the left of his nose.

There was a youtube clip being circulated a few years back of a command division crewman sealing off one of those fire hydrant looking things on the wall of the corridor in an attempt to seal everything shut and keep the storm out. We were all having a laugh because he apparently was empty handed pretending to screw the thing shut. Only thing is...he does have something in his hands! It's plastic or glass, but he's holding something to help him batten down the hatches.

In the final sickbay scene check out the door behind Bones. A rare bit of sloppiness as someone's just dumped what looks like a bunch of painters' sheets on the floor.

In HD, I'm always distracted by Mira's big cold sore in LoZ. You can tell the order scenes were shot by it's changing size.

That guy isn't actually doing anything!!! There's nothing in his hands to turn!

You are incorrect, sir. ;)

As stated earlier in this thread, the crewman is using a clear, lucite tool. (Since it's clear and not very visible, people sometimes think he's not holding anything.) He's cranking it much like a tire iron. Write-up about the tool is here:

HD image is below. In this shot, the tool is mostly behind his hands, but the tool is casting a nice shadow on the wall--which shows his hand gripping the translucent bar, and it shows the long metal pin being used as the pivot point:

And a few frames later--with a blow-up:

His right hand is obscuring the red greeblies on the handle, the pivot point pin is clearly visible, and the pin at the far end is in its location jutting out the opposite side of the pivot point pin--being clutched in his left hand.

Fair enough I stand corrected! Very hard to distinguish without your keen eye though, GSchnitzer!

Maybe somebody thought that thing would be more visible on TV than how it actually turned out.

I always was more interested why they sometimes showed a guy in the corridors wearing a full US Navy firefighting gear. Usually during action scenes of people being bounced around the corridors.

I think that's him. But in some scenes he appears to be wearing an old style large life vest that's also white. I think the episode were they had a fire in someone's quarters showed him as well. This pic seems to just show a partial outfit.

To be fair they were probably scrounging around for background stuff they figured no one would pay much attention to.

Well here's a guy with a vest (a couple of feet behind Kirk):

And here's a guy from "The Man Trap:"

And a couple of guys from "The Alternative Factor:"

I once heard the guy on the far right is the actor who went on to play "The Most Interesting Man in the World". Can anyone confirm?

Yes. Call sheets for that day have confirmed it's Jonathan Lippe. I'll miss him while he's on his Mars mission.

Is there proof of this? Every call sheet and daily production report I've seen from the original series does not identify background performers by name.

I don't have the call sheets from "The Corbomite Maneuver" (although they do exist at UCLA, so I could check them at some point), but I doubt this background extra is named.

I also believe Lippe himself denied that he ever appeared on Star Trek via Twitter. @Indysolo has the link to that, I think.
