Hey, I never noticed that before....

I just watched the episode with "Nomad" and at the end of the episode where they put Nomad on the transporter and Kirk tries to convince him to self-destruct I just wonder (just now) why they just didn't transport Nomad into a million pieces in space like they did with Jack the Ripper in Wolf in the Fold.

Kirk didn't want to take the chance that he may have had tech inside to prevent it. :shrug:Besides, Kirk wanted Nomad to go out with a bang and not a whimper.

Because a different writer wrote the episode.

:D

That and, in-universe, Nomad could not be transported against his will, due to his shields. So Kirk had to totally destroy his will before beaming. But why they bothered re-materializing Nomad out in space is a writer thing. And it gave us an excuse for some fireworks at the end.

Yes good answers.

Watched Mirror Mirror today and wow Uhura was pretty awesome. She joined the fight with Spock (best fight eva), took on evil Sulu and disarmed Marlena. Were those 6 packs painted on.?
Ooh I noticed that Uhura's Mirror Mirror outfit skirt was much longer than the skirt she wore regularly.

The skirt appears to be shorter in front and longer in back:

And the boots are taller. Kind of a pretty-woman vibe, like on Sigma Draconis. I don't mind seeing it. :bolian:

I think the sixpack was indeed body makeup. It's like the "3-D" inboard engine detailing painted onto the 11-footer's starboard nacelle: proof that sophisticated art techniques have been around for a while.

Don't forget she was a professional dancer.

The idea was that Nomad was a machine and Hengist (who was possessed by the Redjac entity) was human! So that means that as Nomad didn't need air or life support to survive in space he would have continued his assault upon the Enterprise out in space where as Hengist, err...wouldn't! I loved the guy doing the stunts as Hengist in the episode who was a much larger man than actor John Fiedler with his rippling skin head appliance!

I was just watching the old theatrical serial “Dick Tracy vs Crime Inc.” (1941) and I noticed that when the criminal activates the invisibility device in Chapter 3, the sound was the same warbling sound as Trek used in “Dagger of the Mind” for the mind wipe machine. Could the TOS sound editors have used stock sound from the Republic library?

As long as we're mentioning our sound editors, boy they did a great job. I can't remember if it was Gene Roddenberry or Irwin Allen, but somebody on a vintage sci-fi show insisted that "everything should make a sound." And I think that's right. It gives more reality and substance to a prop. It fleshes out the picture. It helps you believe that a whirling light fixture could beam thoughts into Kirk's head.

This reminds me of a joke song written by a film's composer, who felt that excess sound fx were wiping out his music. Sung to the tune of Goldfinger:

Printmaster...
Sound and suits,
Alone with the mixing crew--
There goes that cue!

A music disaster...
You'll hear screams
And hip hop and bombs galore--
But not my score.

When on screen the lead actress comes round,
Every hair on her head makes a sound,
But her theme that I wrote, and I love the most
is TOAST,

Cause it's the Printmaster,
That end title I slaved over
Now is gone--
In its place, Celine Dion!

But we must move faster,
So I'll go, but first I'll beg on my knees...
Mixers please!
Turn down that sneeze!
Use your mutes!
Lose the guns, raise the flutes!
Oh, I'll never win!
The 3-6 mafia just walked in.
Drop that crowd!
Make me proud!
Leave me LOOOUUUD!

Funny!

But man that line seems off the meter of the song.

That's my favorite line. But you're right about the meter. When I sing it (mercifully) in my head, it goes more like:

When the film's leading gal comes around
Every hair on her head makes a sound
But her theme I wrote, the one I love the most
Is nowhere to be found :)

Re Uhura's sixpack: I have no doubt she was in great shape to begin with, but we were watching it once and my wife said "You know what? She's sucking it in when she's on camera."

Better but the problem is the meter is still off and the final line is rhyming the wrong thing above. The original:
For a golden girl knows when he's kissed her
It's the kiss of death ...from Mister Goldfinger
