He's...gone!

I watched the original. The ending (the need to continue to season 4) for the first BOBW was completely shocking - i kept wondering how they would end it and keep to the hour time frame.

I presumed that Stewart would return, but had no idea how they would manage that.

If it were being done currently, they'd let him have a few episodes as a Borg before the denouement. Or become a recurring "bad guy" which would be most interesting.

:wtf:

Because, what, the Borg are only allowed speak with an American accent?

Technically accent is irrelevant they should speak without one at all.
And what exactly does "no accent" sound like?

Everybody has some kind of accent!

Not me! I'm Canadian. ;)

Anyway, I remember hoping that season 4 would have some sort of 5 or 6 episode arc (not that we used that word back then) with a big, Destiny ( not that that was around then:)) type war.

The only people who do not have accents are the beautiful, unmaterialistic people of California..bow to our greatness. It is deserved!

I'm afraid I knew everything would end up resetting back to normal anyway, as that's sort of the way episodic network television shows work. A shame really, but hey nothing is perfect.

"The Best Of Both Worlds" was conceived as a means of addressing the possible exit of either Stewart or Spiner from the series after the third season; the Borg were introduced into it initially because an early treatment called for the Collective to capture both Picard and Data and combine them experimentally into a single creature. The cliffhanger, at that point, would have consisted of Beverly Crusher announcing that "I can save one of them, but only one."

Spiner re-upped with TNG before Stewart did. ;)

WTF???

That would've been interesting, especially if they kept that cliffhanger even after both of them signed up again. Then they could've come up with some really ridiculously cool way to save them both! That would've been a GREAT episode!

Of course, I like BOBW as it is too...

Oooh... I smell a fanfic idea! Boy that would be hard to write, though... I don't know enough technobabble to make it believable!

True, but it still didn't stop the shock of Tasha Yar making a speedy and rather abrupt exit, before even the first season had finished!

Those wiley network guys... They'll surprise you now and then ;)
