I have to say, this Release Candidate is solid, very solid. It feels complete and I could run off of this without even needing to install the Gold version when it is out, it feels that solid right now. I am running it as my primary OS now on my main machine and every application works great with it, no problems at all to report.

lol, it sure can

Granted, Win7 is based off of Vista, so you could say Vista was the Beta stage, heh.

Now that developers have had time with the software and creating drivers and such that work well with Vista, that has translated over to Win7 I would think.

Win7 is shaping up to be a good OS from MS, and one could say Win7 is what Vista shoulda been/was supposed to be.

I haven't seen an RC build from MS this stable since Windows XP or 2000 to be honest.

That's certainly the impression I've had from what I've seen of Windows 7 so far. Launch day should be fascinating.

I haven't tried it since the first public release (can't remember what build #) and I wasn't particularily impressed, it had quite a few major bugs that made it unusable for me, especially with file permissions (hey, beta software *shrug*) and it just seemed like a less horrible version of Vista, but I'm quite tempted to give it another shot now it's a bit more mature. Doubt it'll drag me away from Gentoo full time, but it could replace XP as my 2nd OS.

Still cannot run it on a Fat32 hard drive.

if you are using a fat32 file system, you should upgrade

i don't like NTFS as it slows the computer and makes data recovery impoosible.

a ntfs computes will b slower by 3 times in read/write as pc will check recheck and check again increasing hard drive wear/tear.

NTFS is pretty terrible, but FAT is ancient and limited. They're both pretty bad, take your pick. I haven't tested for myself (and I can't be bothered to look up benchmarks) but I doubt FAT is a whole 3 times faster, and it has fragmentation issues. NTFS is sooo much worse for disk wear and tear huh?

Hmm... I've been able to recover all kinds of stuff from NTFS partitions. You just have to have the right tools. :)

Fat32 has all those annoying file size limits too... nothing over about 2.1 GB, correct?

I Ubuntu on my desktop. XP on my brand new netbook for now. Just haven't finish playing with it yet.

As usual, I'll wait for the retail boxed version to come out. Or, actually I need a new computer, when 7 is available.

A lot of friends purchased netbooks with various linux distros on them, over time I've ended up installing XP on them all (and my own) - just an observation.

This one looks like it could be a decent OS, unlike the crap that is Vista. However, when using Windows I'm pretty happy sticking XP on old computers. I can't really see much reason to upgrade as it is pretty much the greatest version of Windows.

Linux is not for everyone. Especially iPoders and Gamers. And of course, the "my computer should be as easy as my toaster" crowd.
