Helix - Season 2

I am not sure if i will watch it (or do so right away).

But i saw the previews during during the Ascension miniseries.

It looks like X-files or Fringe, with a minor change (CDC instead of FBI; investigating weird disease cases).

Also, the colony's leader looks like Billy Campbell's character's brother.

And nothing that seems to connect with the previous season??? It seems standalone to me...

Anyone excited -- or have more info?

I liked S1 but immediately thought it couldn't carry on too long (as a series) at the polar base.

sounds like they're adopting the new hip thing to do with shows...ala American horror story / Fargo.

Didn't the last season end with the base basically being utterly destroyed, then a time jump a few years with scenes in Paris or something?

I think it only jumped about 6 months ahead in the season finale. Season 2 is mostly a new story with some plotlines from the first season mixed in from what I've heard.

I don't think it was a jump more than a glimpse.

Like at the end of a season of Doll house.

They show you the distant future and then you wonder, "How the frakk do we get to that?" And then they spend a year showing you... Okay, so maybe not like Doll House.

If it's as bonkers as the last one it might be worth watching at some point though probably not essential or appointment viewing. Last season I enjoyed seeing just how many hidden levels could be stuffed into a hidden Antarctic outpost or to see just how many devious acts Ballesteros could make or for that matter sheer number of twists and revelations.

Season 2 is interesting so far. The team is stuck on an isolated island that is part Wicker Man part Dr. Moreau. If you can swallow that it has been more grounded so far than season 1. At least while the situation itself is outlandish the character's actions seem more sensible so far (relatively speaking).

Having the characters separated has worked well to spice things up a bit. Interesting having Peter and Sarah lead the action at the start. Not sure about the time jump with Julia yet. I'm pleasantly surprised and intrigued/entertained enough to continue.

I've been enjoying it so far. They've set up some pretty interesting mysteries so far. I did not expect the time jump, that was a pretty good twist. I was watching a BTS thing for one of the episodes and the actress who plays Julia talked about being in two time periods, so it sounds like there is a chance we might see her in the present too.
I'm curious how the Island is connected Ilaria, and what led Alan there.
That very last scene at the end of episode one was messed up.

Ratings are slipping fast. I hope Syfy will at least show us the full season 2, but I am not counting on season 3. I am actually a little worried about the failure of Syfy's new sci-fi heavy direction. Ascension only did so-so, Helix is doing quite bad, and 12 monkeys is far from a ratings juggernaut. Is this sending a message to the execs that sci-fi on Syfy doesn't work?

So far it's still got my attention. The time jump was a neat twist and so is the 15 month pregnancy. I'll keep watching.

That's a shame, I've been enjoying all of them. I hope it doesn't scare Syfy aware from real Syfy. I still kind of wonder why they didn't change their name to something more generic and less genre specific. At least that way they could show more fantasy and other stuff, without people complaining about a lack of sci-fi on Syfy.

i'm sooo glad Hataki is back, and that he has survived the 30 years....he was my favorite character, and was worried he was dead.

But he's bringing A LOT of questions... He would be the reason I still want to follow the series this season. Otherwise the weird cult...hmm...not so much (at this point)

But i'm confused as to who's with him...was it his wife? I thought she grew old? or was she just set up in a situation that messed up her body temporarily? Or a new wife?

And is Meegwun Fairbrother playing Aerov/Miksa or Tulok or a clone of one of them?

Either way, Hatake was alone at the cabin (until Julia showed up). Julia's mom and Hatake's "son" were just in his head. The guy is batshit crazy... didn't you see the bodies at the end?

I didn't expect to see Hatake again. Dude has seriously lost it.
That stuff with the kids was pretty messed up.

I found the last episode to be too confusing. Its time Helix moves on answers at least a few questions. 'Scion' didn't deliver on that. Instead we were shown more about the cult, but their relationships are simply too complicated and I feel as though I missed something. Usually this is a warning sign that ratings will continue too drop because viewers can't follow the plot. The return of Hatake was the definite high-point even if the ending was beyond weird.

I'm kind of done with the "disease of the season" crap. I want to know more about the immortals, what they're doing and why, and what they're up to. I don't give two shits about the CDC buffoons.

Yeah, but the show is about a CDC team, so it makes sense that we'd continue to deal with viruses. We haven't gotten a lot of answers yet, but we're still early in the season, and I'm willing to give them time.
