But does it respect the all important canon.The CG show looks fun. Nice character design - they all look like, uh, toys.
^ The new CGI series doesn't have any Canon to respect as yet because it's starting a brand-new Continuity Universe.

Watching that trailer again I'm struck how much it looks like everyone are just inhabiting video game arenas which may not be coincidental as to the audience they're trying to appeal.

I think I take the nostalgia of Kevin Smith’s show over this kids cartoon so far.
But who knows, the new show might still mature a bit.

I won't bother with the new CGI show. It's not for me, and it's not supposed to be.
I thought the same (see upthread) but I checked it out on a lark. And surprisingly, I’m really enjoying it and the twists to the mythos in this kid-centric reboot.
I give it points for using the background stuff nothing else has either bothered or gotten round to using.
The CGI show is kinda watchable. It's entirely its own thing, so it's not ruining any childhoods or anything, but it feels like watching a Fortnite stream. It's quite clear who the target audience is and it's definitely not eighties kids.
I'm not really a fan of what they've done to Cringer, and it's a little weird that they've basically split the old Teela into the new Teela and Krass (maybe they're planning a romantic triangle or something). King Randor is an improvement over the original, though.
The animation style I don't dig one bit, but I guess the kids born in 2010 or later love it.

I'll second that. I'm two episodes in, and though I'm not a fan of the character designs, I'm quite enjoying it otherwise. A very fresh, imaginative remix, different enough to be essentially its own thing, with fun, clever writing, engaging character work, and rich worldbuilding.
Just finished season 1 -- or I guess the first half-season? -- of the new He-Man & TMOTU. It was pretty good, even if it was mostly just an extended origin story. There are some very clever changes to the original concept. Sharing the power of Greyskull among multiple "Masters" is one of the best, although it does mean getting a lot of reused stock transformation sequences. Also an interesting approach to Orko, and a totally different version of Cringer, with a clever explanation for why he still has that name.
I'm still not fond of the character designs, especially the ridiculously top-heavy, tiny-legged He-Man, who just looks comical when he's supposed to look powerful and impressive. But there are some interesting design elements. The way Sorceress's and Evil-Lyn's wings are like open portals to another space-time continuum is fascinating. And it took me a while to notice, but they animate smoke, dust, and explosions to look like traditional 2D animation on top of the 3D CGI. That's a weird touch, but interesting.

We argue about whether weekly or season drops is better for keeping buzz but I think half seasons are the worst. This, Amazon’s Tick, those series breaks Syfy were so fond of, just seem to be momentum killers. In this case, it’s helped fuel the negative nellies to boot running off half the story.
