HBO's "Westworld", starring Anthony Hopkins/produced by J.J. Abrams

What's the difference? Says the guy who's stubbornly sticking to DVDs and not seeing the need for blu-ray.

4k is four times the picture resolution of 1080p. The players are super expensive yet - I think last week one came out for $375 USD and is the cheapest available.

I have a 4K TV and DVD's look horrible on it, that's what drove my upgrade to blu rays (but only if they include codes for digital copies, and only if they aren't available/coming to Netflix).

More pixels is better.

The pixels for 4K HDR are also deeper in terms of colour depth. I assume 8K will also improve in that direction although I suspect most eyes will struggle to appreciate the difference unless those eyes belong to a mantis shrimp.

I've seen a demo of some 4K TVs showing a full 4K demo video at the Sam's Club where I shop, and it is incredible.
I even find the difference between standard and regular HD pretty impressive. I still happily watch DVDs if that what I own, or all that is available, but I definitely prefer Blu-Ray if possible.

If 3D has been dropped as a gimmick and curved screens are never really practical in a home setting, perhaps the next consumerist push will be for discreet roll-out screens rather than 8K?

The TV manufacturers could go the VR route.
More for the gamers among us perhaps and those willing to pay through the nose for the streaming bandwidth required. Even 1080p is supported on only a dozen or so broadcast TV channels in the UK and that number doesn't seem likly to increase if a larger number of SD commercial channels could use the same frequencies.

Damn, I didn't expect a trailer so soon, especially since I'm not surprised it's not returning until 2018.

Doesn't show too much, other than the cool new vehicle.

Kept hoping to see a glimpse of Elsie...

Looks like we must be picking up pretty close to the end of season 1.
I'm wondering if Bernard is working with the regular humans, or is there prisoner? He didn't look real happy being in that truck with the guards.

Season 1 Blu and digital is available today on Amazon for preorder. MSRP $64 CDN, pre order price for $45.

I know i shouldn't be surprised by those prices since it's HBO, but, still, holy crap.

Edit:. DVD $58 CDN MSRP, $40.59 pre order.

For a fraction of a second, my brain interpreted that as they were adding Viking World. :rommie:
