Spoilers Hawkeye -Discussion Thread

Just finished the first two episodes. It was pretty good. It did the same thing with Shang-Chi saying that’s it’s present day which I’m assuming is Christmas 2024. News reporter said that it’s been years since the Ronin has been seen so that would work. Also gives time for that musical to be produced.
I like the step dad. I hope he isn’t the baddie. He looks a lot like Paul F Tompkins.
So the watch looks like to be the macguffin here. It’s probably a Iron Man suit.

Off to watch Chucky now.

Nice start. Could use a bit more Hawkeye but Kate Bishop is good in this. I'm not as engaged with this series as the previous marvel series but there's a lot set up for episode 3 and beyond. I also think the watch is an Iron Man suit and this is another thing leading into Armor Wars.

Funny, we were so sure that "Falcon and Winter Soldier" would be the "Lethal Weapon" series but it seems this is more along those lines. Especially with Clint's whole "I'm too old for this" attitude.

I'm wondering who it was who covered up his killings as Ronin. If it was a Government cover-up so the International Community wouldn't know it was an ex-US Special Forces guy doing it or if it was out of gratitude for helping save the world.

And I wonder if that bit where Kate's sort-of-Stepfather said he got a book on being a Stepfather was a shout-out to "Bumblebee".

I don't think anyone covered up what Clint did as Ronin because almost nobody knows it was him.

I'm enjoying it so far. I think I remember reading that Marvel specifically held back production on this until they could get Hailee Steinfeld to play Kate, and I can see why because she's been excellent. Kate's energy and enthusiasm pairs nicely with Clint's world-weariness. It's also been fun seeing a lot of Matt Fraction's comic book run being translated to the screen.

I can't believe David Aja isn't getting any money from Disney for this. Even the end credits are three minutes of animation in his art style. Cheap bastards.

I really liked it. I know absolutely nothing about Hawkeye beyond his involvement with the Avengers, so this is like new territory for me.

The opening with "Rogers the Musical" though... OMG.. I would have left too. And I LOVE musicals! :D

I usually only watch one episode of a show at a time, but this was one of the few times I watched two.
Really enjoyed both episodes.
Hailee Steinfeld has been great as Kate, at this point they could just dump Clint and focus 100% on Kate and I would have no problem with that. I'm pretty much expecting that to happen if this gets a second season.
The musical was hilarious.
I had been assuming Jack was the head of the Tracksuit Mafia, but I was just on the show's Wikipedia page and it turns he's Swordsman from the comics, so maybe not. Although that makes me wonder if it's Eleanor, I swear I remember seeing a reference somewhere to Kate's mom being a villain in the comics.
Wait, Echo is a bad guy? I thought she was a hero in the comics?

"Since when did your heart shrink three sizes?"
"When a little girl in a ninja costume stole my Christmas."

Just watched both episodes and it's off to a great start. I'm already a big fan of Kate Bishop and how she latched onto the idea of Hawkeye after the attack on New York as means to fill the hole of grief that was left behind by her father's death. As such, it's no surprise that she would cling onto the real thing upon actually meeting him. What I wonder is if she figured out that Clint was Ronin and that's what motivated her to wear the costume, or was it just a coincidence and she needed something to wear in a pinch in order to fight the bad guys after the attack on the auction.

Speaking of the auction, it's curious such items were recovered from the Avengers compound by anyone other than the Avengers and their associates (like, say, Damage Control). And if the watch is indeed Stark tech (good call, y'all, I didn't suss onto that idea), it seems even sloppier for those items to fall into the wrong hands.

I'm glad the show didn't draw out the sliminess of Jack and that Kate recognized the truth of his intentions quickly (instead of simply being understandably paranoid), although it's a shame the show did stick with the trope of Eleanor being completely blinded by it and was quick to scorn Kate regarding her reaction to Jack.

I know nothing of Echo so I don't know if her introduction here as an antagonist is misdirection or a change in character for her. Either way, I'm excited to learn more about her next week!

Where was the watch everyone's talking about? I must have missed it somehow.

It was the item the tracksuit mafia went to steal. I think Kate picked it up and took it to her apartment.
I’m thinking it’s a Iron Man suit.

Really good start to the show which i have been looking forward to since it was announced.

Hailee Steinfeld is brilliant as always and playing such a character is right up her alley. I love the enthusiasm but also that she is in over her head because she doesn't know how dangerous this world can actually be. Clint knows which is why he is so adamant to get hour out of it before it's too late ( and we know it is already far too late).

Hawkeye has always been one of my favorites in the MCU - a baseline human with insane skills and experience, just oozing coolness from every pore. He doesn't need a magical hammer, an indestructible shield or a superadvanced combat suit - he does it all himself and what's really good about the show is that they show it took a toll on him, both physical and psychological ( i was so sad for him when he watched the musical and saw "Natasha" on stage).
It was also really cool to see how his wife is completely in the loop and understands/supports him - no giant freakout because he's headed into danger because she know he can handle himself against anything the universe throws at him.

I'm curious to see where the story is headed and what the story actually is. It's almost certain that Hawkeye will pickup up the plot thread with Yelena from Black Widow and i can't wait to see her back in action - so far Hawkeye only had to deal with the Goons ( though the Tracksuit Mafia Russians were hilarious :lol:). Going up against a young Black Widow who wants to kill you is an entirely different game.

I love how the MCU is slowly laying the groundwork for the next version of the Avengers - so far we most likely have Yelena, Shang Chi and then it's Kate Bishop and i wonder who will be next. Marvel is staying true to their formula to build up characters slowly so when the big movie comes they don't need to waste time with character introductions.

I'm ashamed to say I completely missed what New Rockstars seems to have sussed out -
that the Kate's mom/Jack situation, and the truth behind the deaths of Kate's dad/Armand, is not at all what it seems from Kate's POV. Which is going to make it really satisfying when watching others get blindsided by the reveal later on.

This.

Renner has always been a strong actor, with his Hawkeye being one of the few grounded, level-headed MCU characters, so his series was something to look forward to. So far, its interesting, and I'm waiting for (or hoping for) a particular sub-plot that should have him eventually run into the new Captain America (in the movies, and not another Avengers outing.

I did find the sequencing of that scene a bit odd but I just chalked it up to dramatic license.

I did find it odd that Kate's mom wanted to leave, but ended up staying in the incredibly rebuilt penthouse after Kate's dad died....
