As a general statement that's obviously true. But are you referring to Discovery-specific things? I try to avoid reddit so I wouldn't know but I'm curious now.
Yeah, DSC for sure generated a toxic environment but it wasn't just that either. Last time I was on /r/startrek people were still vicious about the Kelvin Timeline and VOY and anyone who liked them. But I finally gave up once two users accused me of being a CBS plant because I dared give my basically neutral-positive position on the CBSAA model for DSC. Because it's inconceivable that someone would be fine with it. At that point I was just like, this place sucks and isn't fun anymore. The mods are nonexistent and everyone just seems to be angry and resentful. Reddit blows lol.

EDIT: And leaving Reddit made me look for an alternative and that's how I found TrekBBS. And while there's some unpleasant people and interactions here too, it is, for me anyway, uncommon.

I also hate reddit's downvoting system because it's basically just a way for people to silence unpopular opinions. It's literally just people shutting up commenters they disagree with. Ugh.

About the ship...
To quote another Sci-Fi franchise...

Luke : What a piece of junk...

Han : She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts...

I'm on Han's side with the new ship in this case, and what if that's the point of the show, who's to say that StarFleet gave him this ship as a sort of punishment, for a poor performance or something along those lines, or even better it's seen as a challenge to the crew, to take this "Lemon" and make "Lemonade" from it, hey that could be a story unto itself, yes ?

This place is a hell of a lot better than Reddit... :barf2:

I went to Reddit because this place was so negative. As Bones says, it was really bad towards VOY and ENT here.

However, Reddit is a lot more negative towards the new films, which drove me back here.

Hopefully Discovery can get a mostly reasonable reaction at both places.

Personally I want to return to the late 24th and early 25th century.
I want to see Cardassians and see what happens with rumulans after the destruction of their planet.
But I have no problems with the new show

^The TV shows are not allowed to address the Romulan issue..

It dwells in the realm of 'We can't talk about that'

because it? Do they plan to make a movie about what happens after the destruction of the planet?
Because something to do with JJverse company owning the rights or something. Not even the novels can mention the Romulan question

Paramount Pictures owns the license to create new Star Trek feature films. Bad Robot Productions, as the filming studio retains some rights to the Abrams films as the licensed creator, and Paramount has the distribution rights to those films. It's very likely that the ownership represents a thorny problem to sub-license the contents of those movies for inclusion in the CBS-licensed games.

CBS owns all Star Trek, if they wanted to deal with Romulus's destruction, they can. If Paramount or Bad Robot has a problem with that, they lose their license to make Star trek movies.

It is true Bad Robot can prevent the tie-ins from covering their material, which we've seen with the novels not allowed to touch the Kelvin Timeline or the destruction of Romulus. But no one tells CBS what they can and can't do with Star Trek. CBS is the final authority.

"Then perhaps your intelligence wasn't so great, Sargon. We faced a similar crisis in our early nuclear age. We found the wisdom not to destroy ourselves. "

or

"You'll learn to care for yourselves, with our help. And there's no trick to putting fruit on trees. You might enjoy it."

...or dozens of other potential captions lifted from TOS. The Picard himself could learn "smug" from Shatner's Kirk.

And Pine Kirk was humorless?

"Find a couple of more guys and it will be a fair fight."
"You can whistle really loud."
"Stop with the metaphors. That's an order"
"I thought he'd be a vodka guy."
"Let's never do that again."

Among other pithy one liners.

I guess the more I learn about the nature of Discovery, the less appealing it becomes. My main concern is that if there are no stand-alone episodes/stories and everything revolves a typical "modern tv" dragged out conflict, then if this one story isn't appealing, then the entire show is ruined, since there's nothing else to look forward to. So they need to get it just right with one story.

And since these are indications that they're trying to appeal to the modern audiences that like fantasy over real hard sci-fi, then this could be as bad as any number of "the expanses" out there with zero effort put on realism and just revolving around "character development"

I can't think of a single "modern TV" series that hinges on a single narrative. Not one.

Except those are all colloquial in nature, so they're obviously not funny.
