Hate your job?

I've worked for my current employer for over ten years. It has had its ups and downs, but generally it's been okay. Recently, though, it's taken a down turn. A year ago I had been getting discouraged and seriously considering finally getting out. Then some things changed just as the environment at my previous location started to get even worse with the transfer of some new managers that were little more than corporate company stooges and assholes. An opportunity arose for me to transfer out to a new location and a better position and I took it.

Now it's nine months later and things have gone south again. The first eight months were near gold. I liked my new position and the problem solving aspects of it. But the position was dissolved (it was a part of a pilot project) even though I performed admirably and beyond expectations in the role. What's worse, though, is that rather than getting a sideways move to the more traditional role of supervisor (which I had already been training for a year ago) someone was promoted over me, someone with nowhere near the experience and background I have. And numerous individuals in the store have remarked privately that they all feel I got shafted. I can't argue with that.

Now I'm back to doing something that I had long grown tired of. I can do it in my sleep. Whereas before I had to use my mind now I'm just an automaton going through the motions just to get through the day.

I feel numb and I now hate my job where before I felt positive about going to work. Everything around me stinks and I can't stomach the corporate like mindset around me that seems evermore pervasive than I ever noticed before.

What's worse is that I now have to defer to a very corporate minded individual who doesn't know a tenth of what I know.

Time to look for a new job because I now fucking hate the one I've got. I don't even think the prospect of this guy falling on his face would make me feel better. I'm that soured on the place. And note, too, that numerous people have complained about this guy. He's very much a clipboard-and-stopwatch-and-rule book type with a measure of full-of-himself mentality thrown in.

Speaking for myself I do have one failing: I have never bought into company bullshit and I've seen plenty over the years. And I've never been a yes man.

Anyone else hate their job?

I don't hate my job itself (I quite like the core work of it, in fact) but I intensely dislike the bureaucracy and various ancilliary hoops one is obliged to jump through. And, more fundamentally, I found the concept of working for someone else even more stultifying.

So I resigned last week (and now just waiting to hear back on how much notice I have to work out). Freedom beckons! Well, actually, a whole heap of self-employed projects beckon, but you know what I mean... :D

Point is, Warped, there are always options. Hope you find one that suits you.

I was laid off my job over 6 months ago & my unemployment is almost exhausted. :(
I was only at my last job for 1 year & 7 months, but I had high hopes when I started & thought I had finally found a job I would stay with until retirement. I was soooo wrong!

Warped9, I had a previous job several years ago I quit because I thought I could do better & I already had close to 11 years in there. Take it from me, just try & stick it out & hope things get better. It's hard starting over with the economy being such a mess. If I could go back & do it over again I would not have quit.

It's rare to find a job where there is not some type of drama or backstabbing. As long as there are people involved, you will always have to put up with some sort of shit at work.:(

Yep. I loved my job. I worked for Dell's Warranty division and got to do something I loved. I could have retired from there a happy man, but it wasn't to be. Two years into my employment, the facilities changed hands and Dell laid off most of us in the process. Now, two years later, I'm still unemployed, my unemployment is all used up, I just got turned down for a position at Kroger (for those of you keeping track, sorry folks, it didn't work out after all).

So for those of you who do hate your job, I sympathize, but please, hold on to it as long as you can.

Yes, I agree with this and plan to do so.

I don't hate my job. As you can tell, I'm playing online right now while at work.

There is, however, a woman here that makes me wish I could drink on the job or, at the very least, say things on the job that I can say some less moderated places here.

If she was gone, my life at work would fantastic.

I get paid decently, have benefits and I can afford beer and food.

What's not to love?

if you hate it that much quit and see how good it is to be unemployed or under employed quit whining and suck it up

I don't hate my job. I hate having to get here and back as I can't drive yet, but I can choose my own hours within reason and get to mess around on the internet albeit surreptitiously.

However, it's make-or-break time as I did not get my pay rise last year so I'm currently earning less than others on the team. The pay review is next month and if I'm shafted again, I'll be looking into moving on.
