Hasbro's Power Rangers era and General Tokusatsu discussion

Scans! Let the marketing push officially begin!

Spoilered for size

Now for the highlights............

Everyone has a skill

Wolf- Super Smell
Leon- Super Hearing
Tyranno- Super Strength
Eagle- Super Speed
Unicorn- Telepathy

TegaSword Red call out is Winner, Gozyu Wolf!!

Are we going to have a competition type theme? Super Sentai battle 2.0 but whole season long?

We have the descriptions for the other Gozyugers

-The Soaring, High Spirited Warrior Gozyu Eagle
-The Powerful (???大, something that's big) Warrior Gozyu Tyranno
-The Soul Reading Warrior Woman Gozyu Unicorn
-The Sharp Eared, Charismatic Warrior Gozyu Leon

And the changer is pronounced "TEG AH" sword which makes me wonder if that is an intentional Power Rangers reference

Tegasword/ Megazord

Red so far is the only one that doesn't use a personal weapon right now to combine with their changer and ring. I believe they're saving that for an early season power up. Supposedly a Scimitar weapon

Red getting "Super Smell"?

That sounds like he has the weakest special ability.

Short of Red being a Detective/Tracker/Hunter of some sort, I don't see how "Super Smell" is the best special ability out of the team.

Unicorn gets freaking Telepathy?

Talk about OP.

Hopefully GoZyu Eagle will get to fly as well, given the Eagle motif.

Hmm. This is our first female Sentai Black as a main character, and only the second overall (not counting Gokai Changes), the first being Iroki, Kaguragi's predecessor as Hachi Ohger in KingOhger.

Akiko Inoue is the writer. She is the daughter of Toshiki and granddaughter of the original head of KR '71. Her only toku so far is Gotchard. She was the secondary rider. Show premieres on February 16th

I don’t know if I should be worried she worked on Gotchard

Storyline from website

The number one monster attacks! He is a friend, a rival, and even a member of the SentaitopNumber OneBattle

The Gojugers will fight against enemies sent by the evil army, the "Number One Monsters" who are the best in all fields. The Gojugers will engage in various "Number One Showdowns" with the Number One Monsters and rescue people who have been mercilessly caught up in the conflict. At the same time, a battle over the "Sentai Rings" that were scattered throughout the visuals also breaks out! The five are driven to fight to "collect all the rings", and are also rivals competing for the rings
. In addition to the five, rivals with the powers of the previous Reds will appear one after another! "Sentai VS Sentai"! The enemies are the previous Reds and the Gojugers! There can only be one Number One.

Shades of Liveman. "Friends, why did you do this?"

The mecha designs are impressive. The costumes aren't bad, but those hand weapons look like they're permanently giving us the finger.

Granted that Gotchard isn't an encouraging debut credit for Akiko Inoue, but hey, I didn't care for Naruhisa Arakawa's head-writer debut on Kamen Rider Kuuga, yet I've loved his Sentai work. Anyway, it's cool that both Super Hero Time series will have female head writers now. Has that happened before?

Last time there was female writers for sentai and kamen rider was 2007 Den-O and Gekirange

rough translation of character bios

>GozyuWolf is unfriendly and foul-mouthed, but strong in arms and somewhat violent. However, while he is hard to approach, he is a good guy at heart.
>In contrast to Wolf, Leon is a charismatic warrior who is kind to everyone, male and female alike.
>Gojuu Tyranno, on the other hand, is naive and tends to get himself into trouble. But don't worry, because he is incredibly strong!
>The fun-loving, playful Goju Eagle boasts light footwork
>and the first ever “female black” warrior in Super Sentai history, Goju Unicorn, has a cool personality but is very family oriented. The five heroes, each with their own unique personality, will go on a rampage

Could yellow be Bi?

The trend in Sentai lately seems to be Reds with problematical personalities, rather than the hyper-earnest nice-guy Reds we had for a while before then. Momoi Tarou was strange, imperious, confrontational, and rude. Gira was kind at heart but put on an unconvincing facade of being evil and ruthless. Taiya is amiable enough, but personally distant and secretive, and a bit smug in his super-richness.

The composer, Kan Sawada, is a newcomer to tokusatsu, but he's done a lot of anime, particularly the comedy franchise Doraemon. I've heard his work in Godzilla: Singular Point, but I don't remember if I liked it.

Power Rangers
According to a new report from Daniel Richtman (via Comic Book), a brand-new Power Rangers movie is now in “early development” at Paramount.

⚡️Completely new film nothing to do with Entwisle’s reboot show/universe for Netflix
⚡️ Hasbro and Paramount has been in negotiations for a few months now and finally made substantial progress in those discussions. If things pan out as hoped, Paramount and Skydance will retain the media rights for Power Rangers and are moving fast on developing the new film.
⚡️a buyout of the property was discussed and both companies remain open to the option, but it will come down to the right price to make that happen.
⚡️ both parties are working together on the film, and it is slated to be a theatrical release. Sources are saying possibly a late 2026 for the release

I fear that any new reboot is bound to be yet another version of Mighty Morphin', which always feels incongruous to me given how many different series there have been in the TV franchise since then. I mean, the 2017 movie reused the MMPR character names, but reinterpreted everything so completely that they could've just given them new names and created a new armor/Zord theme and it would've worked as a separate team altogether.

At the very least, it might be nice to see a reboot of a series other than MMPR. Imagine a new feature version of Time Force or S.P.D. or RPM.

Yeah, but Mighty Morphin' is pretty much the only series the non-fans are going to recognize, so they're probably going to just keep using the name to draw more attention to it.

Yes, obviously I know that's what they're probably going to do; I explicitly said as much. I'm just saying it would be nice if they didn't.

Gozyuger filming going on. Due to having the series be filmed early for consideration for China to air it the show has been filming much earlier than normal. They could be in the 20’s range of episodes

It will be fun to see Makuhari New City when the episode does air

Basically, the red member of your classic team finds himself catapulted into a fantasy world, bringing with him the various tropes of the sentai genre! In fact, every time he defeats an enemy (a goblin, a dragon, a monster), it explodes, to the dismay of those present!

I'm surprised they'd license the figures out to a different company, I assumed the whole reason they bought the franchise was to make all that kind of stuff themselves.
