Is he doing "Suit Only Work" or doing "Suit Work" & "Normal Acting" for the character?

Correction: Shinta Takaiwa is the son of suit actor Seiji Takaiwa, who played several Red Rangers in the '90s-'00s and was the suit actor for every Heisei-Era lead Kamen Rider except Kuuga and Hibiki. Kingranger was played by onscreen actor Shouji Yamaguchi and suit actor Naoki Ofuji.

Komura has been officially confirmed as the head writer.

The Stomach Family

Having the villains be a crime family has shades of W and the Sonozakis. Given their name, Shouma's name may really be Shouma Stomach.

Shouma’s a clone of their dead brother.

We've got alot of female cast members this year

EDIT- One of the twins is actually a guy.

>Kamen Rider Gavv, Partial Setting and Relationship Between Shouma and the Granutes

> The protagonist, Shouma, and the villain, are both from the "Granute" clan. While being hunted by the Granutes, Shouma mistakenly enters the human world where his mother once lived, and is full of curiosity about everything in the human world. In the first episode, with the help and shelter of the little boy who "fished” Shouma unconscious at the beach, Shouma eats all kinds of snacks from the human world for the first time, experienced deliciousness and happiness, and produced Gochizos, who are both his clone and his dependent, for the first time. He also awakened his own power for the first time and finally achieved his first transformation.

>The Granutes of the same clan as the protagonist feeds on "happy humans". Both Granutes and Shouma have something similar to "mouthparts" on their waists and abdomens. When a Granute disguises himself as a human, he has a huge mouthpart that is very similar to human gum on his abdomen (it looks a bit disgusting). He can stick out his tongue from inside and plunder happy humans, turning them into something similar to acrylic boards, and then send them to the "agents" for rewards. The rewards are "dark snacks" in the shape of cubes that look a bit like water chestnut cakes and crystal cakes. Granutes feed on "dark snacks" made from human happiness.

>The agent is a soldier-like existence wearing functional clothing and functional masks. Unlike the general animal-type Granutes, it has a cyber style, and the subordinate relationship between the agent and the Granutes is unclear, because some agents look like the "superiors" of the Granutes. The agent inspects the humans kidnapped by the Granutes (acrylic plates transformed from humans), and distributes "dark snacks" to each Granute as a reward according to the number of kidnapped humans. The kidnapped humans will be sent to the "snack factory" in their world by the agent for processing. How to process these "happy humans" into dark snacks remains to be explained.

>The biggest difference between the male protagonist and the general Granutes is whether he eats people, except for the mouthparts on the abdomen. The male protagonist does not eat people, but other Granutes do, and the male protagonist has a normal human appearance. The reason why the male protagonist hates the Granutes is not only because he eats people at will, but also because one Granute cadre turned his mother into an acrylic plate and took her away.

The candy gimmick still looks ridiculous, and Gavv's origin sounds kind of like a rehash of Donbrothers. The one thing I find encouraging is that Junko Komura is writing it.

Is this the most ridiculous Rider Design that we've seen so far?

I'll give them credit on using a Motif in Rider/Sentai that hasn't been used before.

I don't want to attempt a ranking, since it's subjective. As I've commented before, there have been some ridiculous-looking suits and gimmicks paired with really smart, well-written storylines, like Gaim with its fruit armor. The designs are made to sell toys to kids, I get that.

Seems like they're bringing back the bio horror trait of being a Kamen Rider.

-It's not a belt but a 2nd mouth on his stomach. There's no strap around Shouma's waist.

-The villains eat humans and convert them into cubes and then send them for "processing"

Hmm, yeah, good point. That's gross, but interesting. We haven't had a primary Rider whose belt was part of his body since either Kuuga or Agito (I'm unclear on whether Agito's belt was actually fused to him or if he materialized it from somewhere). We've never had one whose belt (or equivalent) was a natural part of his body rather than an artificial augmentation of some sort.

Well, at least it avoid the usual dynamic of the Rider pulling the driver out from behind their back where they couldn't possibly have been hiding something so big, slapping it against their waist, then having the camera cut away while the belt automatically extends and locks offscreen.

Not a fan of characters pulling stuff out of "Hammer Space"?

Not without explanation, at least. In my Tangent Knights audiobook trilogy, the ability to quantum-phase things into and out of a pocket dimension is integral to how the armor system works, and the otaku heroine does call it a hammerspace at one point.

But no, I'm just saying that it'll be easier for the show's makers if they don't have to do as many cuts between shots and setups to fake the mechanic of pulling out a driver, slapping it on the waist, having the belt loop around, etc. It's a simpler process this way, more like Showa Riders.

What about how "Kamen Rider 555" did it many times where they just carried the belt in a 'Aluminium Brief Case' or had a side character carry the 'Aluminium Brief Case' and tossed the belt to the heroes?

Is that a better solution?

Why are you asking me? I'm not one of the filmmakers.

Not every comment is a personal opinion or a criticism. Sometimes it's just an observation. I'm only saying that having a built-in "driver" will presumably be simpler for them to film than the usual process. There is no value judgment there; I am simply pointing it out, because I'm interested in the production process and thus I pay attention to these considerations.

The premise of Gaav is slightly more interesting then expected, especially with the weird villain family, although its head writer is a big problem (why do the worst writers always seem to be the ones that return the most?). I hate Zenkaiger, its one of the worst sentai I've ever tried to watch, and Zyuohger is the dictionary definition of mediocre, so I'm definitely not a fan of the writer. However, they did write Lupinranger vs Patranger which I liked a lot, so maybe they can pull off a miracle and make Gaav their second actually good show, although I'm not holding my breath.

I will say that this show is very visually unappealing. The suits don't look great, the little snack guys are beyond lame and having the "driver" actually just be a mouth in the main guy's stomach is gross. The show is going to have to be a masterpiece from the first episode to keep me watching past episode 1.

Someone figured out the meaning behind the names of the Stomach Family:

Hm. I was just thinking that toku shows derived too many terms from English and that it would be nice if they mixed it up with other languages. And here they go. (Although they do often draw on French as well, and occasionally Spanish. Ultraman Tiga and Ultraman Ribut both derive their names from Malay words, meaning "Three" and "Storm" respectively.)
