Hasbro to make nuTrek II toys

I believe Art Asylum lost the license several years ago, but continued to make Star Trek toys for DST (Diamond Select Toys) as a studio for hire. DST's Trek offerings for 2012 apparently is a shift away from 7-inch action figures and detailed ship & prop replicas and towards larger "retro Mego-style" figures and small mini-mate toys.

When did that happen? I was under the impression that when Playmates got the Trek license, it was only for the new Trek movie, because the rights to the other series were owned by AA/DST. If what you are saying is true, it must be a fairly new change.

You mean as far as Hasbro getting a full Trek license? I think the news broke earlier this week.

But I think the case with Playmates was that they only bought rights to do toys for Star Trek XI. Had the toyline been successful, they might've gone after the rights for the previous Trek movies and shows for their 3.75-inch figure range perhaps.

Hasbro's stuff is better...or used to be. They cheap out sometimes. Currently with Hasbro, figures included with any playsets and vehicles are usually as poseable as 70's Star Wars. Also, have a tendency to overship heroes and undership or not even make lead villains or supporting players in their superhero movie lines.

That's because leading heroes sell much, much better than villains or second-fiddle characters. I don't think any Trek film's villains have been particularly interesting, so this doesn't bother me.

Kreos? Are those like the Transformers Kreos?

LEGOs, Kubricks, Minimates, Kreos and whatever the Doctor Who ones are called.

I love chibi style figures.

Kelvin and Enterprise bridges. I sold my MEGO TMP bridge. :Sob:

A shuttlecraft with full interior. MEGO never came out with the TMP shuttlecraft with full interior. Playmates came out with micro playsets for little teeny tiny figs.
:Sigh:
