Has there ever been a sequel so stupid you refused to accept it?

The Lost Boys: The Tribe. WTF? No main cast members return, except for Corey Feldman (whom I love, but not in this), and even though the main characters are meant to be the children of Star and Michael from the original, it is never mentioned. The one point of interest is that the head vampire is played by the younger brother of Keifer Sutherland, but direct to dvd sequels are just toilet fodder anyway.

Just like Dr Dolitte 3 and 4, American Pie 3, 4, 5. etc.

Oh, and all the Robocop 2 bashing aside, I always dug the film, flaws aside. Although I could never stomich the third, and I never bothered with the tv series.

I once read somewhere an observation that someone made that people who didn't like Alien 3 were disappointed that it wasn't "Aliens 2". No Hicks, no Newt, and on a prison planet. What made Aliens work was that it wasn't a carbon copy of Alien. Likewise, if Ripley did live Happily Ever After with a new family unit, when what's the character conflict of Alien 3? Husband and wife figures teaming up to defeat Aliens on yet another ship? If there was going to be a third film it had to go in another direction to keep it interesting.

'Dey keel'd Hiks 'n Newt!' :(

Oh, and Jetfire's avatar reminds me of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, another rancid sequel I've tried to blot from my memory. And then there's Speed 2: Cruise Control, which was so horribly paced and unintentionally funny, and the completely vapid, unintelligible M:I-2.

I didn't like it either...I didn't like the first film.

I have to support Jetfire.

:borg:

Being a loyal TF fan, it pains me to say this but yes, "Revenge" was full of suck. I still argue that if you cut out all the BS humor and streamlined the story plot by about a half hour the whole thing would have been a much much better movie.

And frankly, Jetfire was one of the best parts of the movie. The "fart joke" wasn't necessary, but I like the idea of an ancient TF hiding out on Earth who has grown weary of war.

I don't disagree that each film had to be distinctive, but that doesn't mean there was no other option but to kill Newt and Hicks off, and in a way that IMO does a big disservice to the characters.

I disliked what they did to Hicks & Newt (I would have objected less if they had died as part of the story instead of in the opening credits) and it coloured my enjoyment of the movie but Alien3 wasn't a terrible film. X-3 was flawed but the Beast got a satisfying plot arc, Kitty came to the fore and there is still a great deal of potential in the franchise. The Matrix sequels lost a lot of charm and they glossed up the 'real' world women so much that they looked more glam than their Matrix counterparts, which sort of missed the point of the original, but not terrible. Spiderman 3 would have been better if it had finished with Eddie becoming Venom for the fourth film but not truly hideous. Star Wars III squandered Padme, spent a good half an hour tying up loose ends needlessly, and revealed Vader's identity 2 movies too soon but I can always edit that myself.

The real stinker would be Highlander 2... Just abysmal in every way.

I don't even accept the original movie. Without powered armor it wasn't Starship Troopers.

People keep telling me how great it is, how if I didn't think it was great I didn't understand the message etc. It's just that I read the book first and the film wasn't Starship Troopers to me.

I didn't mind the first film too much, but they could have left it with the original title. (According to the "making of" book it was originally called Bug Hunt before they decided to get the rights to ST)

I see this as two questions.

1. Has there ever been a sequel so stupid?
a. Yes, Superman III, Star Trek Insurrection, and Terminator Salvation

2. Do you refuse to accept it?
a. No. That would be a moronic waste of time. Part of life is taking the bad along with the good.

That argument always seemed like a band-aid to me. Alien 3 is Alien 3 because Fox did everything wrong, and I mean EVERYTHING. At least four directors walked off before they hired Fincher, whom before that had only done music videos, to finish a half finished film that had four scripts cut to ribbons and glued back together.

If you ever have an afternoon to waste, look up the original Alien 3 script, which was not just Aliens 2, more like an Empire Strikes Back because the Aliens basically win. I would much rather accept Hicks and Ripley dying heroically than dying in their sleep and in a pool of lead.

Plus I'll just never get over the fact they didn't search the docking bay area after that whole ordeal.
"Let's search the dropship and the docking bay."
"Surely you jest, we beat the Queen! Nothing could go wrong now."
"Guess you're right. Nap time."

Weekend At Bernie's 2

Seriously, what was up with that? Larry was a virgin this whole time? Is it bad I find that harder to believe than a dead guy being brought to life via voodoo and a walkman to find buried treasure?

^ Oh yes...I choose to ignore the sequel and accept only the first film. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is my current number one sequel so stupid I reject it. Another film would be X-Men The Last Stand. Batman and Robin.

Definitely Batman & Robin. Batman Forever - while by no means a perfect film - at least feels like it belongs in the same universe as Batman and Batman Returns, and, if it weren't for the crap-fest that was B&R, I personally think that the original Batman movie franchise could've been kept going and we wouldn't have needed the Nolan-verse reboot films (as awesome as they are).

A dream scenario for me would be for WB to get in touch with Burton and let him come back - either as a director or as a producer - to the Bat-verse and give us a proper sequel to BF.

Edit: Apparently, Burton didn't have quite as much of a role in the production of BF as I thought he did, but, even so, I still think the film retains enough of his 'influence' that it feels like a proper sequel to BR.

Joe Haldeman's Forever Free. Forever War is one of the most brilliant scifi war stories ever written, both storywise and technologically, and Forever Free just craps all over it. I wish I had not read it at all.

Wong Kar-Wai's 2046. In the Mood for Love is already complete, I don't need to know how many gals Chow Mo-wan shags after separating with Su Li-Zhen. Also the scifi elements don't fit the story. Visually stunning, though.
