Has the Temporal age become Trek's best mystery time period?

We all know it's Kovich.

There definitely are weird ways that could make sense.

Kovich... whoever he is... is extraordinarily powerful and seems to have essentially zero oversight. He does appear to be almost zealously loyal to the Federation, but it may have been him playing a long game to ensure events unfold favorably to his vision of the Federation.

And so, FutureGuy is Kovich, puppeteering the timeline to ensure that he ends up where he needs to be and the Federation regains its power after the Burn. Perhaps even to the point that in an old timeline, the Burn was the final nail in the coffin for the Federation and it was forever lost to the sands of time.

All of FutureGuy's "badguy" moves resulted in moving forward on his timeline. Bear in mind too... people tend to forget... NX-01 was "supposed to have been destroyed" by Season 1. There was another timeline where NX-01 didn't make it very far, and FutureGuy/Silik prevented that...

Dr. Kovich: So Moll and L'ak, I'm telling you directly, just give me what you stole and you'll get a full pardon.

Moll: That's your boss Captain Burnham? Seriously? And you're afraid of us giving this to the Breen? You're going to wish we gave it to the Breen if you knew who he was and what he's done!

L'ak: Forget it, just give it to him, he promised to let us go, let these Starfleet chumps find out the hard way. (they hand it to Kovich, who smiles evilly)

Book: Why do I suddenly have a very, very, very bad feeling about all of this?

I honestly wouldn't even be angry if it was almost opposite way around, and Kovich in all reality is kind of nobody who just kind of ended up working with the Post-Burn Federation and ended up in a position of power because like, nobody actually cared about the Federation and they would take literally anyone who wanted in.

Kovich could well be a massive fraud who has just been bluffing his way through the whole time, but has access to the entire classified Federation database. He just... seems mysterious.

So Kovich is just Agent Daniels from Enterprise. How disappointing.

Burnham: He won't give up his power. I've just learned a terrible truth. I think Dr. Kovich is an augment.

Vance: An augment?!

Kovich is a Lanthanite, and Flint, and Tash Yar.

I doubt Flint is a Lanthanite.

Dioesn't have the accent. ;)

srsly, Lanthanites are supposed to be immortal, aren't they? Yet Dr. McCoy was able to determine that Flint lost his immortality once he left Earth.

I've never forgotten that, and in my opinion it was someone in the future saving the NX and repurposing it and Archer to preserve the founding of the federation after first contact butterflies screwed everything up/initiated the time war. Tying it to preserving the federation in the future serves the same purpose, I wouldn't mind this at all.

I'd like it if Kovich is an El-Aurian, thus making it possible for him to appear in Section 31.

I like the idea. I'm on board.

This is the thing, I know some people are like "herp derp ENT changed everything" but it didn't... there was some other timeline where NX-01 was destroyed in S1, but it's not the timeline we know. Everything we see happens is Prime Timeline, if something changed, it changed to be in line with the Prime Timeline.

I feel like Kovich has been violating the Temporal Accords for the express purpose of shopping for office supplies in the 21st century

I feel like as much as this is a joke, it might also like, not be. The "I'm resourceful" line was alittle too cryptic.

At the very least, if it's not outright time travel per say... *IF* Kovich is actually El Aurian or something of the like, perhaps he has technology akin to FutureGuy and can communicate with the past. It may be a bit more benign in use, with him just telling Past-Kovich to put items he wants into storage somewhere, where Future-Kovich can retreive them 1,000 years later.

Another hint Kovich exists in other times but can't say so because it against the law...

Besides the glasses, that pad is a dead giveaway! It's not from a humidity-less vault! He got it from 2029!!

I honestly have a feeling there is no set backstory yet for Kovich. I just hope if/when we do get, it's more akin to Garak than Guinan in terms of logic.
