Has the delay killed the hype for you?

I'm thinking less about it now than I was when I thought it would premiere in 2008. May is so far off. But I'm still looking forward to it very much.

It's like when I found out there'd be a new Star Wars trilogy. I was looking forward to it until about two months before the premiere. Then I got excited, later obsessed.

And when it finally came to the big screen, people wanted to strangle me.

The same thing will happen with STXI, but I'm going to need more info and pics. Like everybody around here, actually.

I am in a holding pattern. I try and distract myself by doing other things. I took down the tent I set up in front of the local theater to be the first to have tickets. Told them I'd be back around August or so. They wished me well.

God, I wish the dudes at the theater I was staying at were as nice... They told me never to come within one hundred yards of the building again and something about the trash cans will never stop smelling... like... pee, or something? I dunno. I told them that I would be back around November 15, and they said that they would be closed for national hot dog day... does that even exist?

Frankly it has for me, and here's where I'm comming from. After repeated trainwreck after repeated trainwreck on the large and small screen, I have ZERO faith and respect in any filmed Trek without any advanced information. I don't mind saying this, but with the original release this year, I was hoping to be spoiled up the wazoo andngetting as much script and visual info as possible so I could make an informed judgement on whether oir not to see this film. But that is going to be dealyed now that it will be released next summer. And we are bombarded by useless tidbits by Orci and Abrams telling us how this Trek willbe truly epic and it willo be something we've never seen. Yeah. Whatever. Gimmie a script, and then I might be excited.

None involved in said wrecks are involved here now. You at least should respectfully give those in charge here the benefit of the doubt before you assume the worse - more so since those now involved have a list of things to their record which can hardly be deemed "trainwrecks".

OR... maybe this way you won't be able to pick apart every little detail, and decide to hate it from the get go (which you and others with similar opinions as you likely already have). Maybe this way you won't go into the theater (make no mistake, you're going to see this movie) expecting it to be trash (which I'm sure you already are).

Personally, I blame fast food for this whole mess!
The whiners are products of the "I want it now!" mentality. Immediate gratification is rampant, even if quality is sacrificed.
I am happy that Paramount, Abrams & Company are taking their time to make a great film, instead of a mediocre flick. A good steak in a sit-down restaurant is better than a quickie burger any day.

The move to summer blockbuster status means that TPTB have recognized they have a great opportunity and are making the most of it.
Paramount, Abrams & Company: "Take your time do it right. We can do it, baby..." (I new those lyrics would come in handy one day! :guffaw:)

Gimmie a script, and then I might be excited.

Really?! I generally like to know as little about a movie as possible before I walk in. Obviously, I'm trolling the net looking for bits and pieces about the movie but I would never want to actually read the script first.

As an example, I finally caught up to reading the first Harry Potter book just a couple of months before the first movie opened. As a result, because they were so faithful to the book, I sat through the whole movie going, "Oh yeah, just like in the book." Not a surprise in the thing.

Less is more, people, less is more.

Although I didn't like the delay, in a way I don't mind it because it gives me time to focus on the whiz bang geek out summer that is 2008. Winter is generally a fairly 'dead' time movie-wise for me, so this year's won't be any different. I look forward to the hype that will no doubt be sprinkled everywhere starting at the end of this year into early 2009. :)

Benson Yee?

Wow! I didn't know you are on the board! When is your bwtf web-page going on line?

BTW: I like your screen name. I wonder if the Trek community caught on yet? :)

I'm with you. If I know I'm going to see a TV show or movie anyway, I stay away from the previews. A preview might pique my interest in a film or TV show that I wasn't planning on seeing, but I want to know as little as possible about a film or TV show I'm definitely planning to see.

I don't even like reading the back cover of a book that I know I'm going to read anyway -- it usually gives away too much information.

I truly don't understand why people like you have the desire to know EVERYTHING about a movie before seeing it. You don't have to read a script word for word to be able to make an informed judgment on whether or not to see a movie. This is what movie critics are for, and you can find a great source of them here: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/

There are plenty of bad movie critics, but a GOOD critic will be able to analyze a film and describe it well. So even if you disagree with his ultimate conclusion, you'll still be able to form a reasonable idea of the movie's quality and you'll be in a better position to judge it. Reading differently rated reviews is a great way to get a well rounded picture of a movie's quality.

I don't know that the delay has killed the hype. For me, it hasn't because it's Star Trek and I'm desperate to see it, but for the general movie going audience it hasn't killed anything because I'm not sure most people are even aware there's a Star Trek movie coming out.

Those who are aware are probably the same ones who rolled their eyes during the teaser trailer while waiting for Cloverfield to start and shouted "PASS!"

For me, the incessant bitching, ballyhooing, and general negative attitudes have killed the hype for me.

Some of the people in this forum need to grow the fuck up already.

Well, I'm not going to grow up, no matter what either of you say. You can't make me do it.

Not in the least, I am still looking forward to this movie big time and I know by December my wife will be ready to strangle me. Thankfully I have a few other things to look forward to before than to keep me sane.

I said no but I'm trying not to get "hyped up" I don't want spoilers and won't search for latest news. I'd like some spy shots of ships and such and a new trailer. As we say in Galactica fandom I'm going to "give it a chance".

I know an extra in the movie who has come home for a while we'll all be there opening night for him no matter what.

Yes, the delay has killed the haype somewhat for me. That and nuWho, with which I'm currently obessed. But I'm sure the excitement will be back once we get closer to the relaese date and get to see some trailers.

It's hard to remain excited for something that's a year away. I can't hype myself up for something for a whole year away no matter how interested in it I am. I could do it for maybe 6 months tops.

Have you thought about hyping yourself up in two easy-to-manage, six-month chunks? You'd get a bit of disappointment halfway through when you realise it's still six months away, though....
