Has the delay killed the hype for you?

Don't mean to sound negative but...

Since the movie has been pushed back, I've lost interest a lot. I used to follow news sites every day. But not anymore. December 25th was like a year away back when the movie was pushed back. Now 5 months later, it's still a year away. I have lost almost all enthusiams for the movie. I hope it will come back at some point. Frankly... I'm more excited by fan productions than Trek XI at this point.

Maybe it's just me since I just haven't been lucky with things I've been looking forward to lately... namely waiting for the next AC/DC album and the game Duke Nukem Forever. ;)

Do you have similar feelings?

Yeah, I'm still looking forward to the movie, but my excitement level has been dialed down a bit since it was moved back. I entirely expect it to pick up though once we get closer and have official cast pictures and a full trailer.

The delay is a factor, but what's mainly killing the hype for me is that there is zero info about the movie.

Come on, I'm not asking for spoilers, though they would be nice. Could some rumours or fake spoilers to throw us off really hurt the movie? Just give us something to talk about. Trek XI discussion is already as stale as discussion for the other Trek shows and movies. Super-secrecy and vague promises of the movie being "big" and "epic" aren't satisfactory at all.

Well I probalby never was terribly hyped about the movie in the first place (I have my reservations about it) but I'm definitely curious to see what they do. With the delay, yeah, for now, I've lost interest.

And I'll echo what others have said, their ridiculous secrecy about the project kind of kills my interest too.

I prefer to know nothing about a film before I go to see it, so the hype is immaterial and the secrecy is a bonus. The only thing that influences me is the buzz when it is released.

Killed is a little strong but the delay certainly doesn't help things from growing cold. With the level of fan talent and what spoilers we have, one wonders if a "reasonable facsimile" will be produced before the real thing ever hits the screens?

This is how I feel as well.

I think that is the key as to why the enthusiasm for the movie is dwindling down for a lot of us. While they were filming, the inevitable leaked pictures kept our interest peaked.

JJ & Co. could play it smart and every month or so let something "slip" out, partial "spy" picture of a set, console, or even a few lines of insignificant dialog from the script. SOMETHING!!! This would help the excitement build up to a fever pitch by the time the movie premieres.

Though there is also the possibility that there may be another "viral" website out on the web, and it just hasn't been found yet.

Mhm, I'm with you. Kinda annoys me that we've gotta wait 5 extra months. I can understand making it a sumer blockbuster, but why not just come out and say it from the very beginning? I just hope it works.

Not in the least.. The hype will only whip back up as we get closer. In the meantime I can entertain myself with the wild flights of imagination of those who "already know" how the film will turn out.

there is no "hype" at the moment, there are Star Trek fans and other people with OCD spending all day looking on the web for stuff that is not available yet.

The hype is a loooooong way off....

Simon Pegg as Scotty killed the hype for this movie for me.

Abrams dropped the ball with that one...

The movie can flop badly for all I care about it now.

The delay doesn't bother me, we have to wait for many great movies lately as we get to hear about them so early. I waited for Batman Begins, Casino Royale, I can wait for this one. It is a long time to wait, certainly, and I thought from the start the original release date was a mistake (and would probably be moved), so they may have been a bit too quick to announce a date, but it'll get here. I can sit back and wait. Besides, by the time it's released I'll have got married and moved my American girlfriend to the UK to live with me, so not only will it be an eventful wait, but I'll also have someone to take (or drag, more like) to see it with me!

I'm still holding out for comic con in late july, that's probably when we get something like the bridge or the ship or the crew , but i wouldn't expect too much until spring of 09 and maybe around christmas

I've gone into hibernation. I am excited about the film, but to make the time pass I don't think about it, and probably won't until a few months before the movie premieres. It's all I can do in the face of corporate stupidity. I mean, what now? Principal photography is done and is in post, and in a little while that will be done, too. And then we'll still have almost a year to wait. One wonders at times if they want it to fail so they push it further ahead to snuff out the small flame that could make Trek come roaring back into popularity. Hopefully that's just irritation talking, but as I said, one wonders.

So for now, hibernation it is.

J.

Yep. That and the paucity of visual spoilers. Abrams is turning it into a bog to-do about nothing.

I am in a holding pattern. I try and distract myself by doing other things. I took down the tent I set up in front of the local theater to be the first to have tickets. Told them I'd be back around August or so. They wished me well.
