Has George Samuel Kirk been Chucked?

Goddamn it, I like that--though it does lead to some questions regarding his age...

And, also, an interesting question of why Spock prime recognized young Jim as Jim if he isn't. But I do agree it is a neat idea.

Well, Shatner did "play" Sam in "Operation: Annihilate"... ;)

POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD FOR STXI

As to Spock Prime's recognition, there is the Kirk/Shatner family resemblance of course, but then there is also the curious notion of why Spcok would assume Kirk is Captain at that moment.

I'll admit I haven't studied the chronology in detail but doesn't this meeting take place a few years before Kirk was meant to take over from Captain Pike anyway? So Spock's bearings may be a little off, and here he sees a young 'Kirk' doing the type of adventurous things he has always known his friend to do.

Nah, if Chekov can be 17 when Kirk is like 22ish or something, then Sam can exist even with your math. I mean Chekov is like 12 years younger than Kirk, according to Who Mourns for Adonias?.

Kirk is 25 at the time of the main events of the movie. Chekov is only 4 years older than he should be.

But as I said above, there is absolutely no reason why Sam couldn't have been born several years before Jim, and simply been living with relatives while the Kirks were in space. Indeed, that was the intent of the filmmakers, since Sam was in the film as the older brother until his main scene got cut. So I don't understand this notion some people have that the film somehow precludes Sam's existence.

if sam was around then why was he alone then if he had a brother to help with his problem? take care love dr. ps i hate the new time line:confused:

The scene that was cut from the movie showed Sam getting fed up at his treatment by their guardian (originally "Uncle Frank," though the novelization calls him their stepfather) and deciding to run away from home. He says Jim will be okay because the guardian doesn't treat him as abusively. But moments later, Jim angrily decides to take the guardian's precious Corvette for a joyride. The boy Jim passes on the road was meant to be Sam, though once Sam's main scene was cut, the dialogue was redubbed so that he became some random kid named Johnny.

A light-hearted question: do we know for sure that the original Sam wasn't a twin brother, "older" by a mere few minutes? ;)

And a more serious question: could the stepfather/uncle be George Kirk's brother, who married Winona after George died? It happens in real life.

Also, Christopher, does the novel state where Winona was during the Corvette incident? I've been assuming she was in Starfleet, and was on assignment somewhere.

The novelization is even less specific about Winona's whereabouts than the movie. It just says she's "not here."

Oh snap. Brothers, identical brothers, all the way, huh?
Such things do happen. My mother looks almost identical to one of her little sisters, to the point that they still can nearly pass for each other, even to family, and cause confusion at weddings by apparently instantly changing dresses and then changing back again. It caused, I'm told, unknowably many moments of confusion in their social circles when they were younger.
